About: Jawa Open Eyes is a visual network monitoring tool developed in Java for managing network and Internet resources. It supports SNMP v1/2/2c for collecting MIB-II information, port scanning, and SSL capable URL time response. The main features include visual network monitoring, an enhanced network topology designer, email alert, trap receiver, trap agent, and real time logging to DB and Web. Changes: This version was completely redesigned, and many functions were heavily changed. New features include improved visual monitoring, a map-based network topology designer, an email alert, the ability to log data to a database via JDBC 2.0, a complete SNMP trap receiver, basic MIB information, and network topology printing. Bugfixes were made. English and Japanese versions are available.
About: BINS is a valid HTML 4 photo album generator with support for internationalization, EXIF, and customizable charset encoding, including UTF-8 (Unicode). Albums can contains other sub-albums. The appearance of the album can be fully personalized by using template and configuration parameters. The number and size of scaled pictures can be chosen in pixels or percentage of the original image. Several description fields (date, location, etc.) can be associated with the pictures, and you can add additional description fields. A command line utility or a GTK+ GUI can be used to set or edit description fields. BINS can use the EXIF data structure found in some pictures to automatically fill some fields (most notably, date and time) and to produce a page providing all information available on the picture, as well as the DigiCam settings when the photo was taken. All image meta-data are stored in XML files. Changes: New translations for the German and Polish languages have been added.
About: code2html is a perlscript which converts a program source code to syntax highlighted HTML. It may be called from the command line or as a CGI script. It can also handle include commands in HTML files. Currently supports: Ada 95, C, C++, HTML, Java, JavaScript, Makefile, Pascal, Perl, SQL, AWK, M4, and Groff. Changes: Support for Python, diff files, shellscripts, Lisp, and gpasm was added. Linewrapping was added. Some output formats were added.
About: dailystrips is a utility to download your favorite online comic strips each day. What sets it apart from the rest is its "local" mode of operation, which automatically downloads strips for you. Avantgo is also supported, for downloading comics to PDAs. Changes: This version includes several code fixes and cleanups, as well as compatibility fixes for other platforms (especially Win32). Numerous strips have been added, and many existing strips were updated. dailystrips now supports 297 comics.
About: JaxMe is a Java/XML binding framework based on SAX2. It consists of a set of code generators that read an XML schema and generate code for parsing conformant XML documents into corresponding Java objects, saving those objects into a database or, vice versa, reading such Java objects from a database and converting them into XML. JaxMe supports namespaces, relational databases, and Tamino. JaxMe comes with an integrated application framework and a generator for EJB entity beans with BMP (bean managed persistence). Changes: The accessors attribute was added to the generator. This attribute causes the child elements and attributes map as getXXX() and setXXX() accessor methods. The runtime now also uses null and not "" in Node.getAttributeNS() for xerces compatibility.
About: jCIFS is an SMB client library written entirely in Java. It closely follows the CIFS specification supporting Unicode, named pipes, batching, multiplexing IO of threaded callers, encrypted authentication, full transactions, domain/workgroup/host/share/file enumeration, NetBIOS sockets and name services, the smb:// URL protocol handler, a java.io.File like API, RAP calls, NTLM HTTP Authentication, and more. Changes: An problem with deleting directories on Windows 98 and NetWare 5 was fixed, as was a small issue regarding "exists" returning false on newly created directories.
About: The WMR918 Weather Station Tools read the WMR918 datastream off the serial port, archive it, filter the archived data, and generate a number of useful and attractive plots of the data. Changes: A sign-bit problem with temperature was fixed.
About: Larbin is an HTTP Web crawler with an easy interface that runs under Linux. It can fetch more than 5 million pages a day on a standard PC (with a good network). Changes: Many efficiency updates were made to the sequencer, to buffer recycling, and to DNS management. A new output module for statistics has been added.
About: myleague is a simple console tool for maintaining soccer league data. Scorer list, league table, match list, and round report are all included. Needs no spreadsheets or database. Changes: A fix for a bug that caused a segmentation fault when trying to read in a league file that contained a goal with missing scorer data, and a few minor bugfixes.
About: Avidemux is a graphical tool to edit videos. It can open AVI, openDML, MPEG, Nuppelvideo, and BMPs. Most common codecs are supported (M-JPEG, MPEG, DivX, Xvid, huffyuv, WMA, etc.) thanks to libavcodec and libmpeg2. Video can be edited, cut, appended, filtered (resize/crop/denoise), and re-encoded to either AVI (MPEG4/MJPEG) or MPEG 1/2. The Spidermonkey Javascript engine is used to give powerful scripting capabilities. Changes: Several bugfixes for a crash when no sound on playback, memory leaks, and opening several AVI in a row, and new progress indicators for time-consuming operations.
About: Qtutils is a collection of command line programs for manipulating QuickTime videos. It includes, among other things, qtconv, which allows one to change the codec used by a QT file, qtsplit, which splits a QT file into several smaller QT files, and qtsg, which creates a QT slideshow from a series of images and a soundtrack. A script named vcdize also allows you to create VCDs or SVCDs out of QuickTime sources. Changes: Qtconv now interlaces audio and video data in the output file in a more sane way. Support for Ogg Vorbis encoded audio streams in qtconv's QuickTime output now works well. vcdize and mpegize scripts were added to the distribution.
About: JLicense is a Java license toolkit for creating and validating license keys. It includes a simple GUI tool for creating the license file and a LicenseManager (which should be embeded inside your Java software) for validating the license.
About: ScannerDaemon is the virus scanner of the OpenAntivirus project. You can send a filename to it via simple TCP and it will scan the file for viruses and tell you if the file is infected or not. The ScannerDaemon comes with its own virus database, so you do not need any commercial virus scanner. There is a plugin for AMaViS and several mailservers to scan all EMail going through a mail server. Changes: Support for a digitally signed virus signature file (you have to use the new virussignatures file with it). From now on, only virus patterns generated by PatternFinder will be accepted if you send the virus with it, so that the pattern can be verified.
About: Jove is a compact, powerful, Emacs-style text-editor. It provides the common emacs keyboard bindings, together with a reasonable assortment of the most popular advanced features (e.g., interactive shell windows, compile-it, language specific modes) while weighing in with CPU, memory, and disk requirements comparable to vi. Changes: Portability fixes.
About: Oggment is an oggmented mixing/streaming environment able to mix an unlimited number of Vorbis-encoded audio files from the hardisk with a line/mic input from the soundcard and stream to an Icecast 2.0 server. Changes: Downsampling for the encoding engine, upsampling routines for 44 and 22khz mono/stereo Ogg Vorbis files, an XML config file, and streaming support for multiple streams.
About: LTris is a Tetris clone with nice effects, graphics, and sound. It has a menu, a highscore, a two player mode, and an advanced game mode in which you get a new figure in each level and later suddenly-appearing tiles and lines. Changes: A great AI improvement that increases the average score gained by CPU by a hundred times, better options to customize the CPU, and additions/adjustments to various menu, multiplayer, and gameplay options.
About: Spirit is an object-oriented, recursive descent parser generator framework implemented using template meta-programming techniques. Expression templates allow Spirit to approximate the syntax of Extended Backus Normal Form (EBNF) completely in C++. The Spirit framework enables a target grammar to be written exclusively in C++. EBNF grammar specifications can mix freely with other C++ code and, thanks to the generative power of C++ templates, are immediately executable. Changes: This release fixes a bug where repeat(0) returned a non-match, when it should return a zero-length match.
About: Install Kernel (ik) is a bash script that installs the Linux kernel and automatically sets up LILO or GRUB. It also saves your kernel configuration each time you do an install. This allows you to restore the newest configuration file when you make a new kernel. This script is intended for two groups of people; people new to compiling kernels, and people who are tired of moving files around and editing their bootloader configurations every time they install a new kernel. Changes: A minor bug which would cause parse errors on non-English systems while checking for the available space was fixed.
About: Resin-CMP uses the EJB 2.0 spec to manage an entity view of a relational database. It includes Resin's servlet and JSP support. Resin-CMP emphasizes the single JVM database management, but also supports distributed EJB calls with Burlap, an XML-RPC protocol. Changes: Support for message-driven beans was added. Locking was reworked, and now supports customized locks. EJBAdmin was added to control cache clearing. Cache control configuration was added. Hot deployment performance was fixed. Many relation bugs were fixed.
About: Cajun is a program that allows you to turn any computer into a massive audio jukebox for your car or home. It uses LCD displays/keypads, and supports infrared remote controls. Soundcard output is delivered to your (car or home) stereo for amplification. The software supports a playlist and shuffle mode. Changes: After a year and a half of work, Cajun 4 is nearing a full release, and is quite ready for general use. Cajun 4 is a complete redesign and rewrite of the Cajun 3 software. It now supports multiple audio streams, multiple input/output devices per stream, different-sized displays running at the same time, a backend SQL database (MySQL), and Web administration via Apache.
About: DansGuardian is a Web content filtering proxy that uses Squid to do all the fetching. It filters using multiple methods including, but not limited to, phrase matching, file extension matching, MIME type matching, PICS filtering, and URL/domain blocking. It has the ability to switch off filtering by certain criteria including username, domain name, source IP, etc. The configurable logging produces a log in an easy to read format. It has the option to only log text-based pages, thus significantly reducing redundant information (such as every image on a page). Changes: A fix for an important bug introduced in version 2.2.2 which caused the wrong banned phrase to be reported and logged when a banned phrase was found.
About: Scope is a framework built around an extensible implementation of the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern. It provides an easy-to-use Java library that can be used as a basis for component-oriented application development following the layered architecture detailed in Sun's J2EE and in Cheesman/Daniels: UML Components. Scope ships with three View implementations: one for Swing GUIs, one for servlet deployments using XML/XSLT, and another for JSP applications. It has been used commercially as a foundation for development of a VoiceXML UI. Changes: Bugfixes and new documentation.
About: JReferences is a program written in Java for managing bibliographic references in the BibTeXML format. Storage is done in a binary file database or, optionally, in a MySQL database. A PHP Web frontend is available. It can input BibTex, RIS, BibTeXML, and DocBook formated references. Changes: This is a major rewrite, adding an abstract database API with a MySQL backend and a file-based backend, and new core classes for storing bibliographic information.
About: Portal API is a PHP framework that let developers concentrate on the functionality of the Website they are coding. It gives them with a core system with pluggable modules that can be added to the portal's pages with a single line of code. Portal API contains pre-built modules for content management (CMS) as well as user/group administration. Example applications are ready for deployment and testing. Portal API provides templates (through Smarty), database abstraction (through PEAR's libraries), localization and browser detection, and more. Changes: Some minor bugfixes and a lot of feature enhancements in the admin application.
About: Divine Intervention consists of two programs. The first is a very accurate BPM measurement tool. The second is a player which can change the tempo of music. The player allows nudging, forward and backward movement by measures, and other nice things. Changes: Persistent cues, static & shared binary downloads, and a more readable .idx format.
About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb, Evolution, Firefox, Emacs, LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators include image, audio, and animation decoders. Changes: Addition of ~ and assumed relative path resolution, new URL EA, use of XSD for createSubContext metadata, new CreateFile() and CreateDir() for simple operations, nested directories and EA support in the edb module, getHasSubContextsGuess() assumes xml and edb are mountable, a new ability to rename contexts in the Native context, a rewrite of the context memory manager, many new subcontext- and recursive-subcontext- stateless EA, consolidation of readAndWait() and read() methods to be just read(), new makeDOM() to wrap ferris context API into a DOM, and a fix for a segfault in the XFS eagenerator.
About: jMSN is an MSN client for the Linux console. It uses a BitchX-like interface, featuring multiple windows. It is written in Perl, and is not based on any existing MSN code.
About: Spackle is designed to be a flexible client/server architecture for the gathering and displaying of statistics, primarily suited to monitoring servers. It's written in PHP and bash shell script, uses RRDtool for stats logging and graphing, and PostgreSQL or MySQL for the server-side database.
About: Bookbase stores each of your books in a MySQL database by its unique ISBN. Searches on your collection retrieve books by title, author, publication / copyright date, publisher, cover type and price, or even when or how many times you've read the book. Any entry can be modified or deleted with ease. Report printing is in the works. Changes: A new 'Remove' option to exclude multiple book rows from a search without deleting them from the database, ability to remove muliple records from the results window using the Delete key, autosizing columns after every search, and new 'Loan Book' functionality.
About: vmips is a virtual machine simulator based around a MIPS R3000 RISC CPU core. It is an open-source project written in GNU C++. Changes: Important bugs in a handful of MIPS instructions have been fixed in this release -- all users should upgrade. A bug was also fixed in the external debugger interface.
About: board-tnk is a discussion board written in PHP (versions for both PHP3 and PHP4 are available). It features very secure URL checking, support for multiple forums (with only one level thread allowed for each forum), use of cookies for showing users new messages since their last visit and storing their information to simplify new posts, a choice of smiley icons for each message, ability to use a subset of HTML within the messages, multiple language support (English, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Turkish, Serbian, Spanish, and Polish), and a full admin page that allows you to create and delete forums, entire threads, or answers from a thread. It is possible to prefix the MySQL tables if only one database is allowed on an ISP server. Changes: This release adds a PHP3 version.
About: Xrefactory provides code completion, source browsing, and refactoring functions for Emacs and XEmacs. It is based on full pre-processing, parsing, and static analysis of sources and works with the C, C++ (and Java 1.4) languages. It contains a stand-alone cross referencer, and a generator for HTML documentation. Changes: This release contains new training examples, improvements in project management, and numerous bugfixes.
About: mcGuestbook is a simple guestbook that allows your visitor to show an image, like a little banner, with his/her message, modify all the design parameters through a password protected administration panel, and delete unwanted messages. Optionally mcGuestbook sends you email when new messages are submitted. The installation is fully automated, with English and French currently supported.
About: pp_watchdog is a Perl script which monitors configured URLs, and searches for specified content in the response. If the content is not provided or the request times out, then a state in a statefile is incremented and a corresponding recovery-script is called. This script can be an individual recovery-script for the monitored Web server. An example is provided. The watchdog also sends an email notification to the admin. The script is safe to run as a cronjob if timeouts are used for the monitoring and a lockfile is used to prevent multiple instances. After a 4 unsucsessfull recover attempts, the script stops trying to respond to the broken server to prevent overloading the machine. Changes: This release is a complete rewrite, incorporating an individual response time limit and grace time for the server to recover, smarter self monitoring, and two debug modes.
About: xpad is a paperless substitute for leaving sticky notes, index cards, or "post-it" notes all over your desk. It opens small text boxes on the X display so that notes can be written and then left to be read later. Changes: A major bug that prevented old pads from being loaded on startup is now fixed. Also, command line arguments are friendlier and the size limit on pads has been removed.
About: ency reads the data file(s) from the Star Trek encyclopedias & episode guides CD-ROM and outputs search results as text or HTML. It also includes a library for writing your own software. Changes: This release features fixes for accented characters and other bugs, speed improvements, and memory usage improvements. There is also a new tool called 'gtkscan' for examining dxr and cxt files.
