About: MySQL is a widely used and fast SQL database server. It is a client/server implementation that consists of a server daemon (mysqld) and many different client programs/libraries.
About: Wine is an implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. It does not require Microsoft Windows, but can use native Windows DLLs if they are available. It provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes. Changes: This release has improved console support, tons of new stubs, improvements to header files compatibility, more features in Wine server and lots of bug fixes.
About: Kover is a WYSIWYG CD cover printer. You have the ability to enter title, contents, set colors for background, text, embed images, and more. You can even stream title and tracks from CDDB into this little app. CDDB access via proxy is supported. Changes: This release features 1:3 auto updating miniview (WYSIWYG), font selection for title and contents, save/load support and printing with 1:1 preview.
About: ascpu is an X windows applet with AfterStep look which displays the current CPU load (user/system/nice) and calculates the average load. It features multiple options for customization. ascpu currently supports Linux, FreeBSD, HP-UX and AIX. ascpu supports SMP under Linux. Changes: Fixes the handling of negative coordinates in "-position" option.
About: astime is an analogue clock for X windows. It shows the current time, the date and the day of the week. astime should run anywhere on Unix-like systems in principle but was so far tested on Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris only. The command-line options allow to customize colors of every element of the display. Changes: Fixes the negative coordinates handling in "-geometry" option.
About: asapm is an AfterStep look & feel Advanced Power Management (APM) monitor for laptop and notebook PCs running Linux or FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD and X Windows. It displays charge left in the battery, the time left to the total discharge of the battery, computer is connected to the mains or is working on a battery and the battery status high/low/critical. Changes: Fixes the handling of negative coordinates in "-position" option.
About: PAiN is a diskmag related to the Swiss Demoscene. A diskmag is a publication like a magazine or a newspaper, but it's being destributed as a program with layout, sound and text. An electronic magazine. The diskmag PAiN appears (almost) monthly and features articles from all over the world. Loaders to display the issues under Linux X11 and GGI as well as under Windows are currently under development. Changes: This is the first release after all. It lacks sound support and features slow graphics. However, it's possible to read PAiN issues dating from 12/98 or newer.
About: XawTV is a simple Xaw-based TV program which uses the bttv driver or video4linux. It also contains various command-line utilities for grabbing images and AVI movies, tuning in TV stations, etc. Changes: Endian fixes (for PowerPC/planb), fbtv works in directcolor visuals (ppc too), new shell script for browsing videotext pages on a tty, bugfixes and a few more minor changes.
About: Gconfig is a router configuration and networking toolkit written in Python using the GTK toolkit. This is done using the pygtk bindings. Changes: This new version contains the pixmaps in the code so seperate pixmap files are no longer needed. The fix in GtkExtra.py has been committed to pygtk-0.5.9 as well. This release also requires gtk /glib 1.1.9 since it uses the new GtkCTree widget.
About: Qps is a visual process manager, an X11 version of "top" or "ps" that displays processes in a window and lets you sort and manipulate them. It displays some general system information, and many details about current processes (such as the TCP/UDP sockets in use by a process). Qps runs on Linux and Solaris.
About: TiK is a pure TCL/Tk implementation of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). It has most of the features the native Win32 and Mac clients have, plus some extras. It includes a graphical buddy list display, full font support, graphical emoticons, away messages, buddy pounce, buddy ticker, IM/Chat capturing, message broadcasting, a GUI preferences system, and much more. TiK's expandable nature allows the addition of new features through packages.
About: Rxvt is an 8-bit clean, colour xterm replacement that uses significantly less memory than a conventional xterm, mostly since it doesn't support toolkit configurability or Tek graphics, but also since features can be removed at compile-time to reflect your needs. Changes: Fixed screen refreshing, fixed source code const stuff, fixed DISPLAY_IS_IP feature, changed window creation, menubar reading, etc. order and removed one of the earlier hacks, changed configure to be less extreme about X libs. Note that this version is dated 11/25/98 but was aparently released 12/31/98.
About: Ident2 is an alternative approach to auth/ident services. It was written from the ground up and can run either as a child handler of inetd or as a standalone daemon with no user intervention. Users can set their own replies or toggle random replies, all at the system administrator's preference, of course. Full compliance with RFC1413 is attempted. Changes: This version adds ~/.noident support from pidentd, IP Masq support is finally added and as any program can use, a complete code rewrite.
About: GNU Mailman is software to help manage email discussion lists and e-newsletters. Its integrated Web interface provides easy-to-use access for list members and list administrators. Mailman supports built-in archiving, automatic bounce processing, content filtering, digest delivery, spam filters, topics, Usenet gateways, and more. It is fully internationalized, and supports digests and email commands. It runs on any Linux or Unix-like operating system and is compatible with most email and Web servers, mail readers, and Web browsers. Changes: This release contains a number of fixes. For example archiving is back, an administrivia filter has been added, and the subscription policy is more flexible and site-configurable.
About: Ecartis (fomerly known as Listar) is a mailing list management program. It has a lot of similarities to Listserv (which was one of its inspirations), but has been written from scratch to support the features and abilities that the authors felt were lacking (or hard to modify/change) in some of the other list management programs available. Its main flexibility is that it is written around a plugin layer (similar to Apache), which allows you to customize and extend the manager in ways that otherwise would be hard.
About: GNU Aspell is a spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell. It can either be used as a library or as an independent spell checker. Its main feature is that it does a superior job of suggesting possible replacements for a misspelled word than just about any other spell checker out there for the English language. Unlike Ispell, Aspell can also easily check documents in UTF-8 without having to use a special dictionary. Aspell will also do its best to respect the current locale setting. Other advantages over Ispell include support for using multiple dictionaries at once and intelligently handling personal dictionaries when more than one Aspell process is open at once. Changes: This version can learn from your misspellings and is now multiprocess intelligent.
About: GNOME is the GNU Network Object Model Environment. This project is building a complete, user-friendly desktop based entirely on free software. This desktop consists of small utilities and larger applications that share a consistent look and feel. It uses the GTK as the GUI toolkit for all GNOME-compliant applications. Changes: A bug fix release to fix stuff from 0.99.0. RPMs (no DEBs) are available, along with sources. Also included is GTK /GLib 1.1.11 and an updated Enlightenment DR15 snapshot.
About: ImPress allows you to create good quality documents using vector graphics. You can use ImPress within a web browser with the Tcl/Tk plugin. It's a reasonable desktop publishing and presentation tool in a small package designed for Linux and for integration with Ghostscript. Changes: Save dialog on exit, fixed problem with canvas after printing and/or saving, property editor works more like it should, undo on most things works, added arrow size editor, Tk patch fixes enclosed text problem and slide caching has been implemented.
About: IMP, the Internet Messaging Program, allows Web-based access to IMAP and POP3 mail servers and provides a range of features normally found only in desktop email clients. Changes: Vast improvements over the last snapshot, including a nicer UI in many cases, mailbox sorting, and lots of bugfixes.
About: Dave Gnukem is a 2D scrolling platform game, similar to Duke Nukem 1. It includes a level editor. It runs on Linux and Windows, and uses the SDL library. Changes: Included since version 0.2 is the new sprite/level editor, although it is currently only a sprite editor.
About: X-Chat is a fully-featured graphical IRC client using the GTK toolkit. Optionally it can be compiled to use GNOME and Perl scripting. Changes: Along with a big pile of bug fixes, this version has alot of new options to choose from and ZVT has been changed to a runtime option (allowing pseudo transparent backgrounds).
About: Welcome2L is a little program that may run at login time to produce a BBS like ANSI login logo. It's very similar to Linux_Logo. But where Linux_Logo intends to be portable, Welcome2L intends to produce the best looking ANSI screens by making full usage of PC graphic characters. Therefore an architecture able to display those characters (i386, Alpha with TGA adapter, etc.) is required to use it. And, even if it will work on larger screens, it will only produce 80 column ANSI screens.
About: The t1utils package contains six programs that manipulate PostScript Type 1 fonts. There are programs that change PFB (binary) fonts into PFA (ASCII) format (and back), that translate fonts into a disassembled human-readable format (and back), and that translate Macintosh Type 1 fonts into PFB or PFA (and back). Changes: This version has some additional Type 2 charstring commands and small bugfixes in t1asm and t1disasm.
About: Petey is similar to fortune but with different content. It was originally written to be a small script for a web page of questionable content, but since then got turned into its own small application. The databases that petey comes with are completely replaceable/changeable/modifiable to enable the application to spit out customized output. Changes: New data set added, code mostly rewritten and now cleaner and faster with a makefile for easier building/installing, bugs'a'plenty fixed, much more portability in this release, worked on a port to RISC OS as well, changes in template functions, and a bugfix dealing with the .petey file.
About: Samba is an software suite that provides seamless file and print services to SMB/CIFS clients. It is freely available, unlike other SMB/CIFS implementations, and allows for interoperability between Linux/Unix servers and Windows-based clients. Changes: This is expected to really be the last beta release before the production release. It has fixes for many autoconf problems.
