 Uptimed 0.02
 by N/A - Mon, Jan 4th 1999 21:58 UTC

About: Uptimed is an uptime record daemon keeping track of the highest uptimes the system ever had. Instead of using a pid file to keep sessions apart from each other, it uses the system boot time. Uptimed has the ability to inform you of records and milestones through syslog and e-mail, and comes with a console front end to parse the records, which can also easily be used to show your records on your Web page.

Changes: Some minor improvements and a major one regarding unique boot IDs. Multiple entries for one and the same boot session will no longer occur when using rdate, clock and alike programs.

 gentoo 0.9.20
 by N/A - Mon, Jan 4th 1999 21:56 UTC

About: gentoo is a file manager written in C. It uses the GTK+ toolkit, and the two-pane concept, somewhat inspired by DOpus. gentoo strives to be very configurable, and also to let you do all configuration from a GUI within the program itself. Using advanced file typing and styling systems, gentoo determines how to display files in its listings, and also how to act on them. The package includes a set of over 120 unique handcrafted icons, for many different types of files.

Changes: Mainly a compatibility release. This one really should work on Red Hat. Also fixed is a semi-major bug which would make gentoo crash while reading in an empty directory on certain systems. A short tutorial/howto on how to create your own commands for use in gentoo has been included and the icons have been upgraded to the latest package.

It also supports storage of binary large objects, including pictures, sounds, or video. It has native programming interfaces for C/C++, Java, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby, Tcl, and ODBC, among others, and exceptional documentation.

Changes: Version 6.4.2 of PostgreSQL has been released, after a messed up release of v6.4.1. Anyone running v6.4.1 is highly recommended to upgrade to v6.4.2 as soon as possible as the previous release has been withdrawn.
