About: multisort can merge multiple httpd logs from a single website distributed on multiple hosts (through round-robin DNS, for example) into a single date-ordered log. It's useful for preprocessing logs before feeding them to analyzers. It's written in C and is quite fast. Changes: Initial version.
About: WML is a free and extensible Webdesigner's off-line HTML generation toolkit for Unix. It consists of a control frontend driving up to nine backends in a sequential pass-oriented filtering scheme. Each backend provides one particular core language. For maximum power WML additionally ships with a well-suited set of include files which provide higher-level features built on top of the backends core languages. While not trivial and idiot proof WML provides most of the core features real hackers always wanted for HTML generation.
About: Pike is an interpreted, object-oriented, dynamic programming language with a syntax similar to C. It includes a powerful modules system that, for instance, has image manipulation, database connectivity and advanced cryptography. It is simple to learn, does not require long compilation passes and has powerful built-in data types allowing simple and fast data manipulation. Changes: Pike 0.6.110 has been moved from beta status to stable.
About: The Graphics Muse Tools are a collection of plug-ins and scripts for use with GIMP. The package now includes a set of C plugins (GFXArrows, GFXCards, GFXTrans, GFXLayers, GFXMerge, and GFXShapes) and a set of Perl scripts (GFXDodge, GFXGallery, GFXLayerSave, and GFXLayerOffsets). Changes: This is the initial release of the Graphics Muse Tools.
About: tgif is a vector-based drawing tool, with the additional benefit of being sort of a web-browser. That is, you can fetch drawings from a web server with it, and you can make objects in your picture into hotlinks to other parts of the drawing, or to other drawings accessible via HTTP.
About: Nmap ("Network Mapper") is a utility for network exploration, administration, and security auditing. It uses IP packets in novel ways to determine which hosts are available online (host discovery), which TCP/UDP ports are open (port scanning), and what applications and services are listening on each port (version detection). It can also identify remote host OS and device types via TCP/IP fingerprinting. Nmap offers flexible target and port specifications, decoy/stealth scanning for firewall and IDS evasion, and highly optimized timing algorithms for fast scanning. Changes: Changes include rpm support, minor bugfixes, and many new OS fingerprints.
About: CVS is a version control system, which allows you to keep old versions of files (usually source code), keep a log of who, when, and why changes occurred, etc., like RCS or SCCS. Unlike the simpler systems, CVS does not just operate on one file at a time or one directory at a time, but operates on hierarchical collections of directories consisting of version controlled files. CVS helps to manage releases and to control the concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. CVS allows triggers to enable/log/control various operations and works well over a wide area network. Changes: Documentation changes and ports additions.
About: aterm (AfterStep term) is an xterm replacement, based on rxvt v.2.4.8. It includes features such as NeXT style scrollbar, resource efficient pseudo-transparency. It understands root background changes by AfterStep Pager and Esetroot. The primary goal of aterm is to provide cool visual features without resource consumption. It can be compiled to utilize AfterStep's libasimage for wider image format support. Changes: Added optional support for JPEG and PNG formats of background images utilizing shared AfterStep libraries, added run-time option to prevent pixmap tiling, rewamped NeXT scrollbar code for better look configurability, unbundled rclock (use asclock instead) as well as numerous bug fixes in tinting code and other places.
About: tircproxy is a full featured IRC proxy. It can proxy DCC CHAT, DCC SEND and other DCC requests transparently to the user, block common trojans (such as script.ini), hide the user's identity and more. It can be used with the Linux kernel or IPF transparent proxy features to transparently proxy IRC sessions. Changes: Fixes mistakes (bugs/misfeatures) made in 0.4.2 which broke DCC when running transparently, adds source-port randomization to avoid DCC hijacking, and fixes a race condition when ident'ing users in conjunction with oidentd.
About: GNOME is the GNU Network Object Model Environment. This project is building a complete, user-friendly desktop based entirely on free software. This desktop consists of small utilities and larger applications that share a consistent look and feel. It uses the GTK as the GUI toolkit for all GNOME-compliant applications. Changes: Read the announcement for details.
About: GNU Midnight Commander is a text-mode full-screen file manager. It uses a two panel interface and a subshell for command execution. It includes an internal editor with syntax highlighting and an internal viewer with support for binary files. Also included is Virtual Filesystem (VFS), that allows files on remote systems (e.g. FTP servers) and files inside archives to be manipulated like real files. Changes: GNOME users will find it is radically faster than 4.5.6.
About: GtkSC is a GTK/Perl based application for viewing the list of streams available via SHOUTcast without waiting a long time for Netscape to draw the HTML tables. It will launch your favorite MP3 player and play the selected stream (provided you have an MP3 player capable of playing HTTP streams) Changes: This version adds a statusbar, and a "view entry" window to inspect individual entries.
About: Lynx is a fully-featured WWW client for users running cursor-addressable, character-cell display devices (e.g., vt100 terminals, terminal emulators running on PCs or Macs, or any other character-cell display). It will display HTML documents containing links to files on the local system, as well as files on remote systems running HTTP, HTTPS, gopher, FTP, WAIS, NNTP, finger, or cso/ph/qi servers, and services accessible via logins to telnet, tn3270, or rlogin accounts.
About: XAP is an application panel for X11. It is based on GTK 1.2 and supports DND of file names to the application buttons as well as direct launching of predefined programs. It also includes a second program, named XWF, which is a simple filemanager for GTK+. Changes: Version 0.5.4 has some bugfixes and keyboard accelerators.
About: Trinux is a minimal Linux distribution that boots from a single floppy or CD-ROM, loads its packages from an FTP/HTTP server, IDE filesystem, or additional floppies, and runs entirely in RAM. It contains the most comprehensive set of network security tools available in any Linux distribution and can be used to conduct security research, analyze network traffic, and perform vulnerability testing of networks and applications. Changes: Now includes nmap 2.0.3, ntop 1.1a9, iptraf 1.4.1, hunt 1.1, arptool, and exscanner 0.3.
