 distributed.net clients 2.7105.430
 by N/A - Sat, Jan 16th 1999 17:49 UTC

About: distributed.net is a loosely knit group of computer users from all of the world that is taking up challenges requiring lots of computing power (most notably the RC5, DES, and OGR cracking contests). It is simple to participate in the challenges by downloading and running their client software (which uses idle CPU time to complete its tasks).

Changes: Client version 2.7105 finalizes support for DES Challenge III, the third DES cracking contest that begins Monday, Jan. 18 @ 09:00 PST. The new client adds Bruce Ford's new DES MMX cores, which drastically improves DES speed on x86 MMX CPUs, as well as other overall improvements.

 GNU Automake 1.4
 by N/A - Sat, Jan 16th 1999 06:36 UTC

About: Automake is a tool for automatically generating Makefiles compliant with the GNU Coding Standards. It was inspired by the 4.4BSD make and include files, but aims to be portable and to conform to the GNU standards for Makefile variables and targets. Automake is a Perl script. The input files are called Makefile.am. The output files are called Makefile.in; They are intended for use with Autoconf. Automake requires certain things to be done in your configure.in. This package also includes the "aclocal" program. aclocal is a program to generate an 'aclocal.m4' based on the contents of 'configure.in'. It is useful as an extensible, maintainable mechanism for augmenting autoconf.

Changes: Support has been added for the Fortran 77 programming language. The Automake Texinfo manual was reindexed. The 'AM_FOOFLAGS' variable is now added for each compiler invocation; e.g. AM_CFLAGS can be used in Makefile.am to set C compiler flags. Support has been included for the latest autoconf, including support for objext. '.' can now be put in SUBDIRS to control build order. Support for the 'include' command and '+=' for macro assignment has been added. Dependency tracking is no longer susceptible to the deleted header file problem. Maintainer mode is now a conditional. @MAINT@ is now an anachronism. * Bug fixes!

TiK's expandable nature allows the addition of new features through packages.

Changes: New features, new options and bug-fixes. Take a look at the 3rd Party Plugins available from the TiK Homepage. The SlashMeat package is cute.
