About: The PCI Utilities package contains various utilities dealing with the PCI bus, and also a library for portable access to PCI configuration registers. It includes `lspci' for listing all PCI devices (very useful for debugging of both kernel and device drivers) and `setpci' for manual configuration of PCI devices. Changes: This version contains updated RPM spec file and few corrections to the man pages.
About: XGlobe is a toy that displays a globe on your X desktop. Unlike xearth it uses a texture which is mapped on the globe and still works when switching virtual desktops in KDE. Changes: Can now draw a grid on the globe, improved xearth command line compatibility, world map is included in the distribution, some minor fixes and enhancements
About: Irssi is a modular, terminal-based IRC client with Perl scripting. Changes: aliases, ignore lists, autoignoring, server lists, !channels work, and some other minor things added
About: slap prints text labels on Seiko Instruments' range of Smart Label Printers (all models). It is distributed with several bitmap fonts in several sizes. Also provided are printer-interface scripts for the common UNIX print-spoolers. slap is available for all UNIX and POSIX.1 systems. Changes: This is the initial public release.
About: cdr stands for CDRip. It is a Perl program that uses dialog to provide an ncurses front end for ripping audio and encoding MP3s. It supports lame, cdparanoia, and CDDB / FreeDDB Changes: This version fixes several bugs, including the long standing bug with using an IDE drive and cdparanoia. A new naming format has been added as well. Track numbering problems with different naming formats has also been fixed.
About: Clig uses a simple description file to create C-code to interprete the typical *NIX command line as well as an up-to-date usage-message and a manual page skeleton. It supports Flag, String, Int, Long, Float and Double types, with ranges, defaults, and more. The generated C-Code is ANSI but has been reported to work with C++. It is self contained code which does not depend on any library other than libc. Included is a TCL-only TCL-package to instrument your TCL scripts the same way as your C-programs.
About: Flwm is an X window manager designed to be user friendly and use the absolute minimum amount of screen real estate. It has no icons, using a pop-up menu to select hidden or new windows, and sideways titlebars. Flwm is also designed to achieve Gnome, KDE, and Motif compatibility simultaneously and has also been tested with many SGI programs that normally require 4DWM. Changes: Several nasty bugs with Motif programs squashed, multiple named desktops, reads/writes both Gnome and KDE desktop information as well as menu items to exit, create a desktop, and run an xterm.
About: R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. It is similar to S, which was developed at Bell Laboratories by John Chambers et al. It provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques (linear and nonlinear modelling, statistical tests, time series analysis, classification, clustering, etc.). R is designed as a true computer language with control-flow constructions for iteration and alternation, and it allows users to add additional functionality by defining new functions. For computationally intensive tasks, Fortran and C code can be linked and called at run time. Changes: There have been lots of bug fixes since the last release, please check the ChangeLog for details. The most important change is probably that the windows version now is in sync with the unix version.
About: Geheimnis is a KDE application that "wraps" around GnuPG/PGP's irksome command-line interface and makes it easier for users to use these programs. It is made in the style of Win31's PGP Shells that were GUI-based wrappers around PGP2's command line interface. Changes: Proper tab support, including files for future encryption/signing support, proposed schedule for 1.0 (June 1999!)
About: GNU Mailman is software to help manage email discussion lists and e-newsletters. Its integrated Web interface provides easy-to-use access for list members and list administrators. Mailman supports built-in archiving, automatic bounce processing, content filtering, digest delivery, spam filters, topics, Usenet gateways, and more. It is fully internationalized, and supports digests and email commands. It runs on any Linux or Unix-like operating system and is compatible with most email and Web servers, mail readers, and Web browsers. Changes: More bug fixes, as we are nearing the 1.0 release.
About: DB_Browser is a CGI tool for developers working with any relational database supported by Perl::DBI. It easily facilitates searching, editing, and adding to tables within a database. While it can be used as a regular interface to database data itself, it works well as a supplemental tool for developers creating their own primary interface. Changes: Removed auto-support for detecting postgres tables, added HTML formatting contributed by Frank Griffith and minor bug fixes.
About: Launcher is an all-in-one file handling solution for use with any software that uses file type to file handler mappings. This utility is the one point of configuration for programs like Netscape, the dfm filemanager, kfm, wmfinder, tkArchive, or tkmail. Features include MIME types architecture, multiple type-discovery methods, apache mime.types parsing for extension mapping, URL, directory, executable handling, and GUI-based disambiguation. Changes: Fixed the handling of filenames with embedded spaces and made other minor tweaks. Added a Makefile for easier installation and generality.
About: Rscript is written in Expect/Tcl and allows you to automate remote logins and execute a list of commands remotely. It is also useful for scheduling tasks using your local cron instead of the remote cron. rscript is able to execute commands as the superuser (using su) as well. It has support for ssh, ssh2, telnet, and ftp protocols as well as optional remote mail notification of all output. A compact Tcl config file parser is included, as well as example files. A TK GUI frontend allows point and click execution of remote scripts and a window for script output. Changes: Added commandline argument to specify other command files, added example command files to run lisp programs remotely, replaced the separate 'sscript' executable with 'ssh' option in conf, created 'hosts' directory, for separate conf file for each host and made 'su' optional (specified in conf file).
About: IMP, the Internet Messaging Program, allows Web-based access to IMAP and POP3 mail servers and provides a range of features normally found only in desktop email clients.
About: GTKWave is a fully featured GTK+ v1.2 based wave viewer for Unix and Win32 which can view industry standard VCD/EVCD files as well as Synopsys (EPIC) TimeMill and LXT format files. Changes: A working fix for the hpaned widget resizing bug in GTKWave has been found and dynamic pane resizing is now an option. Cyco, the cycle-simulation compiler is now much faster due to a new trace algorithm and supports all gate types emitted by the structural compiler.
About: GTK, which stands for the Gimp ToolKit, is a library for creating graphical user interfaces. It is designed to be small and efficient, but still flexible enough to allow the programmer freedom in the interfaces created. GTK provides some unique features over standard widget libraries.
About: GLib is a library containing many useful C routines for things such as trees, hashes, and lists. GLib was previously distributed with the GTK toolkit, but has been split off as of the developers' version 1.1.0.
About: Icecast is a streaming media server which currently supports Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio streams. It can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between. It is very versatile in that new formats can be added relatively easily, and it supports open standards for communication and interaction. Changes: This is the first release.
About: gFTP is a free multithreaded file transfer client for *NIX based machines running X11R6 or later. It has text and GTK+ 1.2/2.x interfaces and supports the FTP, FTPS (control connection only), HTTP, HTTPS, FSP, and SSH protocols and has FTP and HTTP proxy server support. It supports UNIX, EPLF, Novell, MacOS, VMS, MVS, and NT (DOS) style directory listings, and has a bookmarks menu that allows you to quickly connect to remote sites. The code is fully internationalized and there are currently 45 translations available. Changes: Drag-N-Drop support added, added caching of remote directory listings, you can now tell gFTP to only transfer one file at a time, added ability to view files, added Open URL menu item, several connection manager enhancements, several bug fixes and code improvements and added a few more default sites to the config file.
About: Xwpe is a programming environment with a user interface that mimics the Borland C and Pascal family of products. From within xwpe you can edit, compile, and debug programs. The xwpe-alpha project was an attempt to continue development and bug fixes for xwpe. Additional releases may occasionally occur, but major development has ceased.
About: VM is a mail reader written in Emacs LISP for GNU Emacs and XEmacs. It can retrieve mail from local spool files or remotely via POP and IMAP, display and send MIME messages, thread messages, auto-sort messages into folders, and manipulate "virtual folders" of messages matching certain criteria. In Emacs versions with X support it provides an interface with toolbars, menus, and mouse-based message selection. Changes: Changes in this version include a substantially updated reference manual, bugfixes to HTML display and POP and IMAP handling, and removal of support for Emacs version 18.
About: LCDproc is a utility to drive one or more LCD (and LCD-like) devices attached to a host. It is comprised of a server, which uses a modular device driver system to control attached displays, and one or more clients to gather data as appropriate and send screen data to the server. The included client displays a multitude of system statistics (CPU/memory/disk usage, uptime, date and time, temperature, etc.). Multiple clients can connect to the server simultaneously, and clients can set priorities on the screens they provide to influence in what order items are displayed. This facility can also be used to "pop" critical screens (such as an entry from syslog from a log-watching client). All functionality is implemented in userland. Support for many display devices and several platforms (Linux, *BSD, and Solaris at least) is included. Changes: The big news is that it uses a client/server model now. It's easy to connect and display whatever you like. You can also now use multiple drivers at once, and it takes input from an LCD keypad, the keyboard, or a joystick. This version is a complete rewrite.
About: PIKT is cross-categorical, multi-purpose software for monitoring and configuring computer systems, administering networks, organizing system security, and much more. PIKT is intended primarily for system monitoring, and secondarily for configuration management, but its versatility and extensibility evoke many other wide-ranging uses. PIKT consists of a sophisticated, feature-rich file preprocessor; an innovative scripting language with unique labor-saving features; a flexible, centrally directed process scheduler; a customizing file installer; a collection of powerful command-line extensions; and other useful tools. Changes: Improved script parser; enhanced security logging; extensively revamped config files for easier administration; autogeneration of config include files; pre-defined macros; more thorough script syntax checking; $[0], $[1], ... as variants of $0, $1, ...; many other improvements.
