About: Linuxconf is a sophisticated administrative tool. It is both an activator and a configurator, and can manage quite a few system tasks. It has some unique features, like configuration versioning and multiple machine management. It supports multiples languages (French, German, Italian, etc.) and can be administered from ncurses (text), Web, command line, or X (GNOME or wxxt) user interfaces. Changes: Control service activity enhanced, GUI protocol enhanced to be more dynamic, per user disk quota by virtual email domain, map to guest feature (Samba) added, template use for sendmail.cf modified, small bug fixed for html access on Alpha systems.
About: IMP, the Internet Messaging Program, allows Web-based access to IMAP and POP3 mail servers and provides a range of features normally found only in desktop email clients.
About: passwdd is a client/server packages which allows basic synchronization of password files among different machines. There are Linux/Solaris server and console clients. With Visual C/C++, you can compile the Windows version of the clients. Perl CGIs are included as well. Changes: RSA password encryption for the cgi utils (now all clients support encryption) and improved installation scripts.
About: Public BookMark Generator (PBM) is a perl script designed to process links (and folders) out of netscape's bookmark file, using the description field to erase some entries in order to create a public bookmark HTML file that people can distribute on their web page. Changes: First release to work with "configure", bugfix when not using news header and bugfix for "No new links added".
About: NSBD (Not-So-Bad Distribution) is an automated Web-based distribution system that is designed for distributing free software on the internet, where users cannot trust the network and cannot entirely trust the maintainers of software. NSBD authenticates packages with GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG) or "Pretty Good(Tm) Privacy" (PGP(Tm)) digital signatures so users can be assured that packages have not been tampered with, and it limits the maintainer to only update selected files and directories on the user's computer. NSBD's focus is on security, leaving as much control as is practical in the users' hands. Network transfers are done with http or rsync.
About: bacKgammon is a backgammon program specifically written with the KDE in mind. It offers the opportunity to play backgammon games by using a convenient and intuitive graphical user interface. bacKgammon is the successor of KFibs, and supports all its features such as a graphical board representation, drag and drop with automated move checking, an intuitive interface to FIBS, and eliminates the need for typing and (learning) the commands of FIBS. Changes: KFibs can now display the current pip count in the title bar, single shot moving is working, users can disable the automatic timeout, minor visual improvement, more recognized messages and KFibs can display the rating calculations after the game now.
About: KisoCD is a tool that assists you in creating and copying ISO CD-ROMs. It helps you to compose the contents of the CD while the work itself is done by mkisofs and cdrecord. It supports very easy creation of bootable and multisession CDs. Changes: Bugfixes, global configuration file is now opened read-only, segfault when opening the "browse.."-dialogs (options) fixed.
About: The tclreadline package makes the GNU readline facilities available for interactive Tcl shells. This includes history expansion and file/command completion. Command and subcommand completion is provided for all Tcl/Tk commands. Command completion can be easily added for user-defined commands. Changes: Variable, array and '[' command completion, the redefinition of the command `cd' was removed due to multiple requests, the definition of the command `ls' was moved.
About: HTML-Tree is a Perl program that recursively decends directories, and creates a web-page based graphical map of HTML pages on a webserver. A configuration file provides control over the "root" directory for the map, map page title and header, directories to be excluded, link substitution strings, and map page background image. This mapper may be run as a cron task to provide an up-to-date roadmap of a webserver. It is primarily useful as a web site development and administration tool, since it shows all pages available to web browsers, and can identify where links are needed. Changes: Initial public release.
About: kmc_utils is a small package of utilities for downloading images off of and controlling Monochrome and Color Kodak Motion Corder Analyzer fast digital cameras (up to 10000fps). It currently consists of libraries for accessing images on the camera and controlling the camera and two command line programs implementing these functions. Development on GUIs is in progress. Changes: A serial communications library has been added, as well as a command line program using this library. One may query most device parameters, remotely press all buttons, and execute several higher level commands such as automagically setting record rate and image size with single commands.
About: KDbg is a graphical user interface to gdb, the GNU debugger. It provides an intuitive interface for setting breakpoints, inspecting variables, and stepping through code. Changes: Recognize strings with repeated characters, fixes for gdb 4.18 and now saves window size across sessions.
About: Maildrop is a powerful email filter/delivery agent. It supports mbox-style mailboxes and maildirs (a mail storage format used by Qmail). Its mail filtering language supports RFC822 parsing and GDBM/Berkeley DB database files. The maildrop package also includes a command-line tool to perform various operations on MIME messages.
About: xlHtml converts an Excel spreadsheet file (.xls) into highly-optimized HTML. It includes scripts to allow it to be used as a Netscape or mutt plugin and as a xls handler for Apache. The program currently supports string, blank, boolean, error, integer, floating point, hyperlinks, and formula cells. It can also output in XML, tab delimited, or comma separated values (CSV). Changes: Added support for Excel 97 compressed integer and floating point data types. Also now pulls title and last updated date from global header.
About: GNU Portable Threads (Pth) is a very portable POSIX/ANSI-C based library for Unix platforms providing non-preemptive priority-based scheduling for multiple threads of execution ("multithreading") inside server applications. All threads run in the same address space, but each thread has its own individual program-counter, run-time stack, signal mask and errno variable. The scheduling is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the threads are dispatched based on priority and pending events. The event facility allows threads to wait until various types of events occur, including pending I/O on filedescriptors, elapsed timers, pending I/O on message ports, thread and process termination, and even customized callback functions. Changes: Cleanups and two slight bugfixes.
About: Midgard is a persistent storage framework. It provides an object-oriented and replicated environment for building data-intensive applications. It ships with a MidCOM content management system built on the Midgard framework. MidCOM's features include Web-based authoring WYSIWYG interfaces and a component interface for installing additional Web functionality. Midgard is built on the GNOME stack of libraries like GLib and libgda, and has language bindings for C, Python, and PHP. Communications between applications written in the different languages happen over D-Bus. The CMS runs on the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) platform. Changes: Added user preferences, article locking, better access control and new version of the Admin site.
About: CDfs is a file system for Linux systems that `exports' all tracks and boot images on a CD as normal files. These files can then be mounted (e.g. for ISO and boot images), copied, played (audio tracks), etc. The primary goal for developing this file system was to `unlock' information in old ISO sessions. The file system also allows you to access data on faulty multi session disks, e.g. disks with multiple single sessions instead of a multi session. Changes: Initial release.
About: The Perl Shell (psh) combines aspects of bash and other shells with the power of Perl scripting. It aspires to be your primary login shell. Changes: Fixed a problem with smart mode that kept simple commands like ``$x = 1'' from working.
About: X-Tract is an XML Script processor. XML Script is a fully XML compliant language, specifically designed for handling XML data. XML Script is more powerful than XSL, and can perform many XSL functions more efficiently. X-Tract can be used on the command line, or can be run from a web server to handle CGI queries. Changes: Now uses LT-XML version 1.1, which includes various improvements over the 1.0 release. Several new functions, and assorted bug-fixes have been issued as well as significant improvements in performance and reduced memory overhead. See ReleaseNotes for full details.
About: glTron is a tron-like lightcycle game with a nice 3D perspective. 3D acceleration is recommended. Changes: Fixed bug with uninitialised variable 'loop' in mainIdle() that caused the game to crash/freeze and added #ifdefs for FreeBSD.
About: Sawfish (the window manager formerly known as Sawmill) is an extensible window manager using a Lisp-based extension language. All window decorations are configurable and all user-interface policy is controlled through the language. Its aim is to manage windows in the most flexible and attractive manner possible. As such it does not implement desktop backgrounds, application docks, or other things that may be achieved through separate applications. Sawfish is mostly GNOME-compliant; almost all configuration may be made through a graphical interface. Changes: Added click-to-focus, window maximization, window edge snapping while moving windows, some support for Motif and OpenLook window hints. The client program now works across hosts. Also, many bug fixes and low-level improvements.
About: Install-Sendmail will configure Sendmail and Fetchmail on your machine. This Perl script can be used to setup a mail server for a simple network or it can configure email on a dial up machine. All you need to know is your email address, login name and password and optionally, the IP addresses of your network. Changes: More languages supported, beginnings of a FAQ, new features and bugfixes.
About: Flwm is an X window manager designed to be user friendly and use the absolute minimum amount of screen real estate. It has no icons, using a pop-up menu to select hidden or new windows, and sideways titlebars. Flwm is also designed to achieve Gnome, KDE, and Motif compatibility simultaneously and has also been tested with many SGI programs that normally require 4DWM. Changes: Much better click-to-type, new windows are always created active and on the current desktop, picking the current window off the menu works, works with windows that are larger than the screen and does not resize them, added -maximum WxH switch to set the dimensions for the maximize buttons.
About: Datasphere is a conferencing system that was designed to overcome some of IRC's largest problems (scalability, no mesh routing, flat channel structure). It provides a usenet-news-like channel structure, a TCP level multicast implementation over a mesh of TCP links, a distributed channel- and user database and much more features. But most important of all. it's IRC compatible at the client side. Currently basic chatting functionality works, dynamic rerouting works, but progress is very slow. Changes: Initial public release.
About: GProc is a GTK application which allows you to manage your running processes with only a few mouse clicks. It is very configurable and uses skins for better integration with your desktop. Changes: Now you can play with a treeview of the process list.
About: The OpenLDAP Project is a collaborative effort to provide a robust, commercial-grade, fully featured, open source LDAP software suite. The project is managed by a worldwide community of volunteers that use the Internet to communicate, plan, and develop OpenLDAP Software and its related documentation. OpenLDAP Software provides a complete LDAP implementation including server, clients, C SDK, and associated tools. Changes: Many bugfixes and enhancements since release 1.2.3.
About: shasum generates file hashes using the Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA1). It is intended to be a replacement for md5sum(1), as MD5 has known attacks where collisions can be produced. Changes: First release.
About: masqidentd is an Ident daemon for Linux systems that use IP masquerading. It implements the recommendations in RFC1413. It also has the ability to forward Ident requests from a client to a machine sitting behind the masquerade service. Users also have the ability to override the default Ident response. This program is most useful for people who use IRC using mIRC or Pirch behind IP masquerade. masqidentd is intended for use with ipchains only. Changes: Initial announcement.
About: Snoopy is a PHP class that simulates a web browser. It can automate the task of retrieving web page content and posting forms, for example, and has many configurable parameters. Changes: Initial release.
About: SffTools consists of SffToBmp, a little utility that converts Structured Fax Files to BMP, PBM, JPEG, or single- and multipage TIFF format, and SffView, a GUI viewer for those files. The tools should be especially useful to people who are faxing with ISDN cards because the CAPI interface of these cards generates such files. CAPI support for Linux is available for the active card AVM B1 and the passive card AVM Fritz!. Changes: All known bugs fixed. Weird mirroring of pages should be gone now.
About: Etherboot is a free software package for making boot ROMs for booting Linux and other operating systems on x86, Itanium, Hammer, and Hyperstone machines over a network using Internet protocols, namely DHCP and tftp. Changes: Jim McQuillan provided changes to support the SMC1211, which uses the RTL8139 chip. mklnim updated for RedHat 6.0.
