About: KisoCD is a tool that assists you in creating and copying ISO CD-ROMs. It helps you to compose the contents of the CD while the work itself is done by mkisofs and cdrecord. It supports very easy creation of bootable and multisession CDs. Changes: Creating new directories on the virtual CD without filling them at once, made some dialogs easier to understand, some little details more user-friendly, fixed various minor bugs, there are less confusing messages on startup now, writing with 6x- and 8x-speed, ability to read both of cdrecords "-scanbus" output formats (lead to wrong detection before).
About: alarm applet is a GNOME panel applet that provides a way of either alerting the user that a particular time has arrived, or it can be used to run a command at a specified time. Think of it as an alarm clock for your desktop. Changes: Implemented a simple volume for the sound alarm. Not really worth upgrading if the 0.8.1 release does what you want.
About: Pingus is a free Lemmings-like game for GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, and Win32. Changes: Changed directory layout, added --with-extra-include=DIR and --with-extra-libs=DIR to the configure script, added support for multible datafiles, fixed a bug which caused the game to get stuck on level startup, removed the obsolete tile map, background scrolling now works correctly, fast forward works on slower machines now, Level start position works now, added check for ClanLib version (should be >= 0.1.16) and changed the look of the Level Selector.
About: XSane is a GTK-based X11 frontend for SANE. It works either standalone or as a gimp plugin. It is an alternative to xscanimage. Changes: Changed support for Automatic Document Feeder and multiple image scan again, added option --no-mode-selection/-s to disable menu for xsane mode selection. See changelog for details.
About: lsfcc is a compiler generating Linux Socket Filter (and BPF) programs out of a toy C-like language. It's easily extensible as new packet formats are #included in the finest C-like style. Changes: initial release. Basic documentation and minimal packet types are included.
About: Ilib is an image manipulation library for developers. It's capable of reading and writing images (PPM/PGM, PNG, JPEG, GIF, XPM, BMP) and many drawing functions including drawing lines and text using any BDF (X11) font. It's great for generating GIFs/PNGs from a CGI or generating graphs. Ilib includes sample applications for generating graphs for HTTP access.log files and QuakeWorld server frag log files and a tool for creating image indices from a group of images. Changes: Added IDrawStringRotated() function for drawing text vertically (both at 90 and 270 degrees), added support for styled text using ISetTextStyle() (current styles include ITEXT_ETCHED_IN, ITEXT_ETCHED_OUT and ITEXT_SHADOWED), added ISetBackground() function (required to use the ITEXT_ETCHED_IN and ITEXT_ETCHED_OUT text drawings styles).
About: Sudo (su "do") allows a system administrator to give certain users (or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root while logging all commands and arguments. Sudo operates on a per-command basis, it is not a replacement for the shell.
About: Gwydion Dylan is a portable, optimizing Dylan compiler written in Dylan. It was originally written by the Gwydion Group at CMU and is now maintained by volunteers. Eventually, Gwydion Dylan is meant to become a top-notch tool for building complicated applications. Dylan is a dynamic, object-oriented language with four design goals: high performance, rapid prototyping, ease of use, and seamless support for using libraries written in C. Ports of Gwydion Dylan are available for many platforms. Changes: The main new feature of this version is support for shared libraries on selected platforms. Also, as usual lots of bugs have been fixed, Macintosh support has been added, more platforms are supported, we have trampoline code for PowerPC, and more.
About: AIDE (Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment) is a free replacement for Tripwire(tm). It generates a database that can be used to check the integrity of files on server. It uses regular expressions for determening which files get added to the database. You can use several message digest algorithms to ensure that the files have not been tampered with. Changes: This is bugfix release. Some serious bugs have been fixed, the database generation has been fixed.
About: QtEZ is a rapid application development environment that dumps source code native to Qt. Changes: Added MainWidget dialog, fixed error with renaming parents widgets, fixed compiler errors with gcc-2.95 and more.
About: Pybliographer is a tool for managing bibliographic databases. It supports several bibliography formats (BibTeX, Refer, Medline, ISI, Ovid) and can be used for searching, editing, reformatting, etc, through its nice graphical interface for GNOME. Due to its nature, it can be extended to many uses (generating HTML pages according to bibliographic searches, etc). It is provided with sample scripts. Changes: Support for crossreferences and native edition in BibTeX, bugfixes, initial documentation.
About: cgvg is a pair of Perl scripts ("cg" and "vg") which are meant to assist a programmer in doing command-line source browsing. The idea was to be a temporary replacement for cscope until there was a good GPLed cscope available, but there are some advantages to cgvg (as well as some disadvantages). "cg" does the search through code, storing matches in the user's home directory and displaying matches, and "vg" opens an editor at the line in the file where a particular match was found. Some features include color and human-readable output, resizing to screen width, support for many editors, recursive searching, a per-user configuration file, etc. Changes: Fixed a bug when specifying a single file rather than a file search expression, cleaned up the file searching code and with it made the default file search list user-definable in the config file rather than fixed only.
About: CUPS is a wonderful printing system that uses the emerging IPP protocol. The only drawback is that there is quite no free driver available to print with. CUPS-drivers address this issue by providing a generic printer driver using GNU GhostScript. Not many printers are supported to date, but all is in place to support as many printers as GS can. If GS supports your printer, then CUPS-drivers will support it as well. Help and feedback are welcomed. Changes: Initial release.
About: MindTerm is a complete ssh-client in pure Java. It can be used either as a standalone Java application or as a Java applet. Three packages of importance are provided (terminal, ssh, and security). The terminal package is a rather complete vt102/xterm-terminal, and the ssh-package contains the ssh- protocol and also "drop-in" socket replacements to use ssh-tunnels transparently from a Java application/applet. It also contains functionality to realize a ssh-server. Finally, the security package contains RSA, DES, 3DES, Blowfish, IDEA, and RC4 ciphers. Changes: Now seems stable enough to be called 0.99 at least. This release contains some minor fixes/changes, see the README file for details.
About: squidGuard is a free (GPL), flexible and ultra fast filter, redirector and access controller plugin for squid. It lets you define multiple access rules with different restrictions for different user groups on a squid cache. squidGuard uses squid's standard redirector interface. Changes: All known bugs are fixed, added support for prebuilt database files, runtime updates in prebuilt database files and creation of database files, added an up to date 25k entries blacklist, added %p for the path part of an url in runtime substitution and added support for old K&R compilers.
About: Dtheatre News Grabber is a CGI/Perl script to fetch the newest Digital Theater News headlines. It comes with a few customizable features. Changes: Added several new customization variables (amount of headlines to print, option to write to file, etc.).
About: Guile is a portable, embeddable Scheme implementation written in C. Guile provides a machine independent execution platform that can be linked in as a library when building extensible programs. Changes: Mostly bugfixes and the first real release of the Guile Object-Oriented Programming System (GOOPS).
About: GObject Builder (GOB) is a simple preprocessor for easily creating GObjects (glib objects). It reads a class description file with inline C code and produces .c and .h object files for you. It allows you to easily use most of the features of the GObject system and avoids typos by reducing the amount of code needed. In general, the amount of code is about the same as for OO languages such as Java or C++, but you still have to only use C and you get all the power of the GObject system. Changes: Identifiers in checks allowed now, fixed warning if no overrides and signals are available.
About: Mutt is a small but very powerful text-based MIME mail client. It is highly configurable, and is well-suited to the mail power user with advanced features like key bindings, keyboard macros, mail threading, regular expression searches, and a powerful pattern matching language for selecting groups of messages. Changes: This version is considered to be a release candidate. Almost all changes from 0.95.7 concern the build process, which should work now on those platforms for which problems where reported with 0.95.7. postfix and qmail users may be interested in the new $bounce_delivered configuration variable. A development release (0.96.5) was released too and is mainly for testing the new "mutt-dist" target, and to get a common starting point, after the developers had lots of rewirements in the last days.
About: CompuPic is an interactive multimedia file manager and manipulation program which allows you to efficiently view, manage, catalog, thumbnail, and convert over 30 graphics formats. CompuPic is the first consumer-oriented graphics software to be ported to Linux from Windows. Changes: Various bug fixes and feature enhancements. See changelog for details.
About: Libglade is a small library that allows a program to load its user interface from an XML description at runtime. The XML file format is that of the user interface builder GLADE, so libglade acts as an alternative to GLADE's code generation approach. Libglade also provides a simple interface for connecting handlers to the various signals in the interface (on platforms where the gmodule library works correctly, it is possible to connect all the handlers with a single function call). Once the interface has been instantiated, libglade gives no overhead, so other than the initial interface loading time (which is short), there is no performance tradeoff. Changes: This is mainly a bug fix release. It also decreases libglade's memory overhead a little bit.
About: RootPark is a Civilization-like game based on the history of computers and networks. You can play it with as many other players as you want since it has full networking capabilities. The game begins in 1960, when computers started to become very powerful. RootPark provides you the opportunity to experience these historical years, and a large range of possibilities. This source and binaries of the game will be available soon. It will be playable on Linux, BSD (and surely other UNIX like OSF1). Changes: Project announcement and call for help.
About: jake (Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment) is a reference source which makes finding, managing, and linking online journals and journal articles easier for students, researchers, and librarians. jake does this by managing online resource metadata with a database union list, title authority control, linking tools, and a local holdings layer. Changes: Many new features and databases (now 71) included, faster search responses, more extensive cross-referencing, more fields tracked including citation/fulltext start and end dates, output is xml-driven with xsl stylesheets, instructions for building your own front end to gnujake searches are also up.
About: gnokii is a multisystem tool suite for mobile phones. It provides a library to communicate with a phone hiding the communication protocol. The library handles SMS, phonebook, calendar, phone calls, and other mobile phone capabilities. It supports Nokia-FBUS mobiles, AT-capable phones (most of the mobiles), as well as Symbian-based phones. Changes: Version 0.3.0 provides new functionality for the 6110 series, updates to 3810 series code, an X client as well as a rudimentary virtual AT emulator through /dev/gnokii.
About: Wmfire is a dockable application that displays a burning fire depending on the load of the CPU(s), network, or memory. Changes: Major changes in the way wmfire gets numbers for the flame height and added option to show numbers related to flame height.
About: EPIwm is a window manager born out of a school project. It is intended to be small, fast, and configurable while maintaining a large feature set.
About: FreeTDS is an open-source implementation of the TDS (Tabular DataStream) database client access protocol and related libraries used by Sybase and Microsoft. FreeTDS supports all versions of the protocol from both vendors, and includes DB-Lib, CT-Lib, and ODBC libraries. Changes: Many bug fixes. FreeTDS now works with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.

It includes multiple forum support, thread modes, a message previewer/editor, message tags, selectable backgrounds, default options for the regulars, name detection via cookies, recent message date/time color coding, the ability for users/admins to (un)delete messages, top poster statistics, a hidden spoiler message box, the ability to ban IP addresses, a word filter to block cuss words, and much more.
About: Calendars for the Web provides a server based calendar and scheduling application. It allows unlimited users to share unlimted events per calendar. Calendars for the Web comes with a full-featured browser based interface, is completely customizable (sixteen different calendar view types), fully documented, and supports online administration. Changes: New calendar views and improved support for multiple calendars.
About: TkMAME is a full featured graphical front end for MAME (The Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator). It is written in Tcl/Tk and runs under both Linux/Unix and Windows platforms. Changes: Adds .PNG support for viewing images and fixes a couple bugs on Unix/Linux version. You will need to patch Tcl/Tk in order to get the .PNG support. In addition a MAME ROM Analyzer Tcl script is available at the home page.
About: XMLtp is a tiny XML parser/processor written in Java. It was written at a time when the Java Standard Edition didn't come with its own XML parser. Today it is mostly useful for people working with older Java versions or other editions. XMLtp's main use is in applications that use XML as their storage format for the application's data. Since writing XML is not too difficult, reading XML requires a little bit more effort. XMLtp is intended to simplify this effort. XMLtp is not supposed to replace full-fledged XML processors, it just makes it easy to use a subset of XML in your own Java applications. Changes: First public release with documentation.
About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect) protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers. A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON, HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters. Changes: This beta release fixes all reported bugs and is a release candidate for CUPS 1.0. About: libtiff provides support for the Tag Image File Format (TIFF), a widely used format for storing image data. The latest version of the TIFF specification is available on-line in several different formats, as are a number of TIFF Technical Notes (TTN's). Included in this software distribution is a library, libtiff, for reading and writing TIFF, a small collection of tools for doing simple manipulations of TIFF images on UNIX systems, and documentation on the library and tools. A small assortment of TIFF-related software for UNIX that has been contributed by others is also included. The library, along with associated tool programs, should handle most of your needs for reading and writing TIFF images on 32- and 64-bit machines. Changes: Maintenance of the library has resumed. Support was added for IPTC newsphoto and Photoshop captioning. Web, FTP, and CVS services have been set up. See changelog for details.
About: The Glasgow Haskell Compiler is a robust, fully-featured, optimising compiler for the functional programming language Haskell. GHC compiles Haskell to either native code or C. It implements numerous experimental language extensions to Haskell for example concurrency, a foreign language interface, several type-system extensions, exceptions, and so on. GHC comes with a generational garbage collector, a space and time profiler, and a comprehensive set of libraries. Changes: GHC 4.04 has several improvements over 4.02, mostly in the areas of compiled code performance and reliability. As of version 4.04, GHC is released under a BSD-style license.
About: Grace is a WYSIWYG 2D plotting tool for X Windows System and Motif (recent versions of Lesstif should be fine too). Grace is a descendant of ACE/gr, also known as Xmgr. Changes: Many new features, enhancements and bug fixes (see the changelog).
About: Colormake is a simple wrapper that makes the output from make more colorful and error messages easier to spot. Changes: Initial release.
About: ext2resize is a program capable of resizing (shrinking and growing) ext2 filesystems. Changes: Improved libc5 combatibility and a (tiny) bugfix.
About: MM.MYSQL is a JDBC driver for the MySQL database. It implements all of the JDBC spec that can be implemented for MySQL, and offers high performance and stability. Changes: Beginning of JDK-1.2 support, auto-sizing of packets to handle large blobs, documentation fixes, support for connecting to a MySQL server without specifiying the database to connect to. |
