Changes: SVG import/export filters, improved AI import filter, some documentation enhancements, bug fixes.
About: RadioActive is a radio tuner program for X (using the GTK widget set), the GNOME panel and the command line, built upon the standardized Video4Linux API found in the 2.2 series of the Linux kernels. Changes: This is the candidate for version 1.0. It has hopefully every bug and non-operation fixed, you can change your settings from a convinient properties window now (no need to pass parameters like device name in the command line) and it also uses the GNOME configuration storage mechanism to integrate well with the GNOME system.
About: ds3, short for dialup service 3, is a modem sharing server for Linux/UNIX. It allows no direct access to the modem/ISDN-adapter. Instead it provides a text based interface which can be accessed via telnet or by a client. Currently a java client, a gtk based client and a small gnome applet are available. Features of ds3 include user authentification and scripts or programs may be lauched through events created by users or triggered by an interval. Changes: Fixed some bugs in the server (the server crashed if a user connects to it and the server host did not know the hostname of the client) and also finished work on the gtkclient.
About: pngcrush is an excellent batch-mode compression utility for PNG images. Depending on the application that created the original PNGs, it can improve the file size anywhere from a few percent to 40% or more (completely losslessly). The utility also allows specified PNG chunks (e.g. text comments) to be inserted or deleted, and it can fix incorrect gamma info written by Photoshop 5.0 as well as the erroneous iCCP chunk written by Photoshop 5.5. Changes: Version 1.1.6 fixes a bug wherein one file was left open after each image was processed.

Changes: Now builds "out of the box" on newer Linuxes (based on kernel 2.2.x).
About: gif2png is a simple command-line utility to convert images from GIF to PNG format. It automatically preserves transparency, interlacing and text comments, and it can do multiple images in one command (e.g., gif2png *.gif). The distribution also includes a web2png script that can be used to convert an entire web tree; it calls gif2png to do image conversions, then patches IMG SRC tags correctly in referring pages. Changes: Version 0.7 is the first update since 1995, and it is distributed only as a patch to avoid any redistribution of LZW code. This version creates smaller PNG files by swapping the transparent palette entry if it's not first, thus allowing PNG's tRNS chunk to be truncated. It also auto-interlaces by default (i.e., make an interlaced PNG if and only if the GIF was interlaced), reports a summary at the end and has a new -q option to force quiet operation.
About: XDBM is a database designed specifically to handle XML data. It offers greater speed (since the data is stored in a preparsed format), lower memory usage (since only those parts of the file needed are loaded into memory) and faster searching for XML elements. XDBM can also parse and store plain text XML files. XDBM aims to be as close to the W3's DOM specification as possible. XDBM also comes with utilities for converting between XDBM file format and plain text and for reading XDBM files in less and emacs. Changes: Block management, code is more portable, mailing lists.
About: FM is a Gtk+ file manager which aims to offer the best possible ratio between features, simplicity, and resource usage. Currently all the efforts have gone to the development of the browser. Much thought has been put into the creation of an efficient and easy-to-use interface. Several existing file managers on a variety of platforms have been used as an inspiration and lots of new and original features have been added. File operations are not yet possible, but will soon be supported through a modular interface that will allow anyone to extend and customize Fm.
About: Paralogger is a script to "tail" the system logs in borderless transparent Eterm(s). Its purpose is to make setting up a "root tail" an easy set and forget. Paralogger makes the placement of the terminals (geometry) more friendly for the user by detecting the screen resolution and calculating the geometry of the terminals automatically. It can also load or save a configuration file. Changes: More bug fixes, and paralogger now parses the command line for the most-used options.
About: PPP Daemon for Linux, Solaris 2, *BSD, SunOS 4, Digital Unix, SVR4, NeXTStep, and Ultrix. This allows Unix machines to connect to the internet through dialup lines, using the PPP protocol, as a PPP server or client. Works with 'chat', 'dip', and 'diald', among (many) others. Supports IP, TCP, UDP and (for Linux) IPX (Novell). Changes: pppd now supports shared-library plugins, there's an updated port for 64 bit machines running Solaris 7 and later, there's an 'allow-ip' option to set ips that peers can use without authentication, chat can now substitute environmental variables with the -E option, Linux compilation glitches have been fixed, and complete IPV6 support has been added (fixed from 2.3.9).
About: Autoclose will close a user-specified process when another user-specified program shuts down. For example, it can be used to disconnect from the Internet (shut down pppd) when a Netscape download window has terminated. Changes: Autoclose now takes command line parameters, the code has been split into multiple files for readability, unnecessary variables have been removed and the code is cleaner, comments are better, it now logs the start of the monitoring process as well as the finish time, it uses memory more efficiently, and the size of the arguments is checked to see that they don't exceed the maximum size of the data type.
About: X-Chat is a fully-featured graphical IRC client using the GTK toolkit. Optionally it can be compiled to use GNOME and Perl scripting. Changes: Bug fix release; users are encouraged to upgrade.
About: Given a URL, Getleft will try to download all links. As it goes, it modifies the original HTML pages so that the absolute links get changed to relative links, and links to active pages get changed to the resulting pages. It supports thirteen different languages. Changes: This is a bugfix release; now it may even work.
About: TkNotePad is a simple text editor like the Windows notepad. Changes: A fix in yes/no/cancel message boxes so that the "cancel button" will cancel rather than do the same as the "no button".
About: This is a simple command-line utilitiy to convert images from TIFF to PNG format. It is primarily useful in dealing with TIFF images that contain alpha channels (transparency information), since the NetPBM suite is (currently) ill-suited for such conversions. A few test images are included. Changes: Version 0.7 has a modernized libpng interface, a more robust error-handler, support for PNG's pHYs chunk (aspect ratio and resolution info), and optional support for halving the horizontal resolution of fax images (-faxpect option, enabled if FAXPECT defined).
About: MP3c is a curses-based audio CD-to-MP3/OGG converter with CDDB support. It can be used in an interactive menu environment or a batch mode which lets you encode automatically. MP3c tries to find the most useful information in a CDDB entry, and even recognizes sampler CDs correctly. It is very configurable and can be used with every available encoder, ripper, and tag editor. It is available in different languages (currently English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, and German). Changes: Introduced with this version is multiripping (you can now rip several tracks from one cd which will be stored in a new window, before encoding these you can rip other tracks from other cds), NLS-support (MP3c is now available in english and german, any translators welcome), improved patternmode, a new routine to check whether external programs are available, a colorfied config and setting menu, rewritten autoconfig and autoheader stuff (was broken), and a first release of rpms (i386 and src). There are still some features missing, which are planned for 0.22 (please test this version to find any bugs that have been left in).
About: These are the demo programs that accompany O'Reilly's "PNG: The Definitive Guide." rpng is a simple file viewer with the ability to set a background color when displaying transparent PNGs. rpng2 is a progressive PNG viewer, designed to work like a web browser (though it contains no network code); it can generate a background image when displaying transparent PNGs. wpng is a simple converter from NetPBM to PNG format; in most respects it is much more limited than pnmtopng, but it supports interactive entry of PNG text annotations and will generate noninterlaced PNGs on the fly (rather than buffering the entire image first like pnmtopng). The viewers include simple front ends for both X and Win32; the converter is a command-line app that compiles on Unix, Windows, and probably other platforms. Changes: This is the initial public release. OS/2 and BeOS front ends are planned, but probably not until sometime in 2000.
About: Card Services for Linux is a complete PCMCIA or PC Card support package. It includes a set of loadable kernel modules that implement a version of the Card Services applications program interface, a set of client drivers for specific cards, and a card manager daemon that can respond to card insertion and removal events, loading and unloading drivers on demand. It supports hot swapping of most card types, so cards can be safely inserted and ejected at any time. Changes: New PnP BIOS subsystem to help avoid resource conflicts. Major Toshiba ToPIC chipset bug fixed. Minor fixes to tulip_cb, 2.3.x kernel compatabilities, smc91c92_cs, apa1480_cb, /etc/conf.modules install bug, tcic, CardBus driver, & others.
