About: Arping is an ARP level ping utility. It's good for finding out if an IP is taken before you have routing to that subnet. It can also ping MAC addresses directly. Changes: A new -d switch (duplicate address detection).

About: PHP is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. Its syntax draws upon C, Java, and Perl, and is easy to learn. PHP runs on many different platforms and can be used as a standalone executable or as a module under a variety of Web servers. It has excellent support for databases, XML, LDAP, IMAP, Java, various Internet protocols, and general data manipulation, and is extensible via its powerful API. It is actively developed and supported by a talented and energetic international team. Numerous Open Source and commercial PHP-based application packages are available.
About: pgpenvelope is an interface to help meld using Pine with GnuPG. It also includes procmail filtering mechanisms. Changes: A new filter recommended for in pinerc, and creating messages which can be read better on Windows.
About: QUB (the Q Universal Boardgame) is an electronic front-end to any board game, using a scanned game board and pieces. It is intended to be an aid for PBEM gamers, game designers, and (eventually) real-time networked boardgamers. Changes: A fix for a fatal bug in removing pieces from the board which was introduced in 0.2.10.
About: gnome-find is an easy-to-use, but powerful, graphical version of the GNU find utility. It features a default, no-nonsense dialog for use in most commonly specified searches. Additionally, a second, more detailed and advanced dialog is available to specify more powerful search parameters. Changes: A few minor bugfixes, Spanish and Russian translations, and implemented searching using Boolean tests for -{a,c,m}{min,time,newer} options (e.g., -amin, -ctime, -mnewer, et al).
About: GQmpeg is a frontend to various audio players, featuring themes (skins), playlists, and many configuration options. Supported backends are mpg123, ogg123, xmp, and video4linux radio tuners. Changes: Moving to gdk-pixbuf, full alpha transparency, beginning of module (.mod) support through libmikmod, extensions to the skin spec, bugfixes, and more.
About: KWebGet is a KDE based frontend to wget. It can be used to download single files or to mirror whole Web sites to your local hard disk. Changes: A first KDE2 port, better drag'n drop functionality, and many internal changes, because of the new Qt and KDE APIs.
About: NFTP is a console/X11 FTP client with an interface similar to Norton Commander. It has lots of features for power users, and supports 20 languages. Changes: Bugfixes, and new features like BeOS attribute transfer, OS/390 server support, deleting local nonempty directories, changing file permissions on remote, recognizing the Windows 2000 FTP server, two new script variables controlling mirroring behaviour, an icon for OS/2 VIO version has icon, options to disable directory re-read confirmation and to disable logoff confirmation, a new installer for Windows version, FTP search now accepts usernames and passwords, Apache proxy support, a Czech translation, and more.
About: 3dfile is a simple OpenGL-based file browser. Navigation is very easy; just point-and-click. Changes: A port to Solaris, fixes for the configure script to detect glut, improved animations, scandir replacement, use of GNU getopt, support for accelerated cards, redesign of the main interface, a vertical scrollbar, information view and a text view, and new menus.
About: Gnumeric is a powerful and easy to use spreadsheet using GNOME. Its goal is to provide a full featured spreadsheet and a smooth migration path for people and organizations currently using proprietary applications. It provides more sheet functions and greatly improved accuracy when compared to Microsoft's Excel. A plugin system lets you extend Gnumeric, adding functions, I/O formats, and real time data capabilities. The existing Python, Guile, and Perl plugins let you define complex functions. Gnumeric is capable of reading and writing MS Excel (XLS and Office Open XML), and reading Lotus, Applix, Quattro Pro, OpenCalc (ODF), XBase, DIF, SYLK, HTML, Psion, MPS, oleo, sc, misc. text formats, and its native XML. It can also generate Latex, HTML, and others. Changes: Bugfixes and new features.
About: HEYU provides a command line interface to communicate with the CM11A hardware module from X10. The CM11A will send remote control signals over the power lines to remote modules within your house. HEYU can be run from cron to automate lights, sprinklers, etc., or can store macros and timers in the CM11A memory for standalone operation. Auxiliary input is supported from MR26A, W800RF32A, and RFXCOM X10 RF receivers. Arbitrary commands and scripts can be launched based on X10 signals and the state of the system. HEYU also supports the CM17A "Firecracker" device for transmission of X10 RF signals. Changes: Faster response and a fix for a problem with dimming lights via schedules (but breaks the xtend program).
About: FilterProxy is a Perl script that acts as a generic Web proxy. It is unique in that it allows you to install modules that can perform arbitrary transformations on HTML (or any other MIME-type) and HTTP headers. It filters ads by stripping HTML from the page, anonymizes requests by removing Referer and User-Agent headers, compresses HTML content, and de-animates animated gifs. Configuration is done via Web-based forms or editing a Perl data structure. Changes: A new Rewrite module allows complex modifications to Web pages (removing Web bugs, stripping difficult banner ads), capability to filter outgoing (form post) data, an RPM package, and an init script.
About: Smash sends messages to mobile phones and pagers. A server handles the SMS gruntwork while small portable clients submit messages to be sent. Smash uses a plugin system to support different operators and protocols. Changes: Many, many fixes.
About: Trio is a highly portable set of string functions focused on its *printf() clones. The printf() formatting is compatible with ANSI, BSD, GNU, and most of the C9X specs. The scanf() parts are incomplete. Changes: Fixes for precision bugs in some %f outputs.
About: J is a multifile, multiwindow programmer's editor written entirely in Java. It features syntax highlighting for Java, C, C++, XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Lisp, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, Scheme, Tcl/Tk, Verilog, and VHDL, automatic indentation, directory buffers, regular expressions, multifile find and replace, autosave and crash recovery, undo/redo, and FTP/HTTP support. All keyboard mappings can be customized. Themes may be used to customize the editor's appearance. Changes: Addition of a toolbar and a sidebar, bug fixes, and minor improvements.
About: stowES (stow Enhancement Script) is a Perl script which tries to ease the use of the "stow" packaging program and software which can be compiled and installed with autoconf. It automates the compilation and installation of software packages and provides some useful functions to maintain your stow packages (e.g., list packages, check packages for integrity, etc.). Changes: Command abbrevation and aliases are possible now, new check commands to check for broken stow packages and installations have been added, and various other improvements and bugfixes have been made.
About: curl and libcurl is a tool for transferring files using URL syntax. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SCP, SFTP, TFTP, DICT, TELNET, LDAP, and FILE, as well as HTTP-post, HTTP-put, cookies, FTP upload, resumed transfers, passwords, port numbers, SSL certificates, Kerberos, and proxies. It is powered by libcurl, the client-side URL transfer library. There are bindings to libcurl for over 30 languages and environments. Changes: The internals have been totally rearranged to provide a new libcurl interface, FTP ranges now work, the URL buffer overflow has been removed, FTP sessions have changed, FTP URLs are now treated slightly differently, a better progress meter is now used, and location fixes have been made (again). This is a beta release, and may not work 100%.
About: Audiogalaxy's Satellite is a distributed music search agent. It is a small application which does mp3 searching and file transfer and makes a designated directory on your computer searchable by other Satellite users. It features a real-time transaction-based system for file sharing. The Linux version has no user interface, but files are selected via the Web for transfer from other users. Changes: The 128 byte file length problem (which used to crash Satellite) has been fixed, easier auto-upgrade features are now in place, SOCK_REUSEADDR has been turned on again, and many other minor fixes have been made. A German readme file is now included.
About: hdparm is a Linux shell utility for viewing and manipulating various IDE drive and driver parameters. Most drives can benefit from improved performance using a command similar to "hdparm -qm8 -qu1 -qc1 -qd1 /dev/hda".
About: Bastille Unix (formerly Bastille Linux) aims to be the most comprehensive, flexible, and educational Security Hardening Program for Red Hat (Fedora Core, Enterprise Linux, and original Red Hat), SuSE, Gentoo, Mandrake, and Debian Linux, as well as HP-UX and Mac OS X. Virtually every task it performs is optional, providing immense flexibility. It educates the installing admin regarding the topic at hand before asking any question. The interactive nature allows the program to be more thorough when securing, while the educational component produces an admin who is less likely to compromise the increased security. Changes: The module audit has been finished, fixing many bugs and making things pretty stable. Two more modules still need to be put back in place.
About: Streamripper records MP3, Ogg, AAC, and NSV audio and video files from Shoutcast and Icecast compatible streams. The streams can be recorded as a whole or in individual tracks. Streamripper also features a relay stream, which lets you listen or watch live from multiple clients while recording. Changes: start_ripping is now asynchronous via threads. It should be quite easy to make a GUI frontend now. A -o option has been added to create a directory after the stream name and put the tracks there. MPEG 2.5 frames are now handled correctly (they caused "too many errors in mp3 data" errors before). Errors in the mp3 data do not stop the ripping anymore. A -n option has been added that waits until the next track before ripping to avoid getting a half-done track. automake is now used.
About: SWARM is a software model of the basic ARM processor in C++. Rather than a simple emulator, SWARM attempts to simulate the behaviour of the ARM's datapath. It also provides a model of the memory/cache/registers hierarchy for algorithm analysis. Changes: SWARM has been expanded to include a fully associative cache implementation and the interface between the caches and the rest of the system has been cleaned up. The test app tarball has been updated.
About: File attempts to classify files depending on their contents and prints a description if a match is found. Changes: A -k option was added to find all matches. More magic data was added.
About: Pagecast submits lists of URLs to various search engines such as AltaVista, Infoseek, Excite, Google, etc. to be indexed. It can run from the command-line or as a mail-robot (email a list of URLs to pagecast@yourmachine). It has a few advanced features such as the ability to rate a URL's keyword-to-title relevance and fix broken meta tags. Changes: This version is nearly a complete rewrite of the 1.x series. The main changes include multiple language support with English, French, and German translations, a modular server system with group control, many new and updated servers definition files (and templates for custom servers), HTTP proxy support, improved network performance, and full SMTP support for sending mail.
About: Portable OpenSSH is a Unix/Linux port of OpenBSD's excellent OpenSSH, a full implementation of the SSH1 and SSH2 protocols. It includes sftp client and server support. Changes: Lots of bugfixes.
About: jnerve is a Java implementation of a Napster server. It is based on the protocol specification available from the opennap project. Changes: A fix for a bug with user level security handling, support for permanent channels, and an "OpenDoor" feature to allow un-registered users.
About: The getpg/UW-IMAP patch utilizes the getpg functions to allow UW-IMAP to authenticate users against a PostgreSQL database. Changes: Updates for new UW-IMAP version 4.7c2.
About: Balsa is a Gnome e-mail client supporting POP3, IMAP, and local mail delivery. It can be compiled with multi-threading support for faster response, and can do nifty things like read your GnomeCard address book, use LDAP, and render HTML mail. Changes: Fixes for crashing when sending mail, on messages with large To: headers, or on connection to bad POP3 servers, and other minor fixes.
About: IceMe is a graphical menu and shortcut editor for the IceWM window manager, written in Python and GTK+. You can edit menu entries with drag and drop as well as cut and paste. Both the default menu and the local menu in the users home directory can be edited. Changes: A new "Preview Menu" function, a fix for a "NameError: GdkColor" error that prevented startup on some systems, and fixes for some cut and paste problems.
