Today, we offer an editorial from Bodo Bauer, who writes: "The ethics of OSS development have been on my mind for a while. I never really found an answer, and talking to coworkers brought up the fact that they are having similar issues. That's why I put my thoughts together in this little essay about OSS developers in today's business world." [Comments are disabled]

About: motion uses a video4linux device for detecting movement. It makes snapshots of the movement which can be converted to MPEG movies in realtime (or later for low CPU usage), making it usable as an observation or security system. It can take actions like sending out email and SMS messages when detecting motion. Changes: Initial release.
About: Ecawave is a simple graphical audio file editor. The user-interface is based on Qt libraries, while almost all audio functionality is taken directly from ecasound libraries. As Ecawave is designed for editing large audio files, all processing is done direct-to-disk. Simple waveform caching is used to speed up file operations. Ecawave supports all audio file formats and effect algorithms provided by ecasound libraries. This includes OSS, ALSA, aRts, over 20 file formats, over 30 effect types, LADSPA plugins, and multi-operator effect presets. Changes: New features including cut, copy, paste, fade-in, fade-out, effect presets, and support for LADSPA plugins.

About: KisoCD is a tool that assists you in creating and copying ISO CD-ROMs. It helps you to compose the contents of the CD while the work itself is done by mkisofs and cdrecord. It supports very easy creation of bootable and multisession CDs. Changes: A fix to recognize when only the LaTeX document has changed to allow saving, and more configurability.
About: The ENBD (Enhanced Network Block Device) is an industrial-strength version of the Linux kernel NBD. It makes a remote disk look like a local block device, allowing cheap and safe realtime mirrors to be built over the net. It features internal block-journalling and multichannel failover. Changes: Initial freshmeat announcement; reconnection protocol states machine changes.
About: The VP7 Way Kool Project is a GTK application which simulates a laboratory experiment with radioactive nuclei. The user can choose between many predefined radioactive sources or create new ones. The number of decayed nuclei and the activity of the source can be determined with a built-in counter. The beam can be attenuated with shields of paper, aluminium, and/or lead. Changes: Initial announcement.
About: Bras is a rules-based command execution system, ala 'make'. It includes a powerful rules system supporting foreign directory triggers, multiple rule types, and on-the-fly dependency generation. It is written in Tcl and uses Tcl as its script language. New "cows" can be easily bred by those versed in the appropriate dark arts. Cowsay is more useful than most of the items found in SkyMall catalogues, and a lot less expensive. Changes: One new cow, one renamed cow, and a tweak to get it to work with Perl 5.6.0.
About: Eev.el is a simple Emacs Lisp library that lets you treat portions of a text file as shell commands, chunks of code for programming languages or as hyperlinks; its intention is to let people record into plain ASCII files their interaction with the computer, and to let them edit and play back any block of code in those files easily. The hyperlinks can point to places in manpages, Info pages and text or HTML files, and they are seen as comments by all programming languages; using them you can place pointers to all relevant online sources of information inside the code.
