About: Cbrowser is a very feature-laden front end to the popular source code indexing and querying program cscope. It is also designed to work with the free alternative to cscope called cs. About: web2ldap is a full-featured Web-based LDAPv3 client written in Python. It is designed to run either as with stand-alone built-in Web server or under the control of another Web server with FastCGI support (e.g. Apache with mod_fastcgi). It has support for various LDAPv3 bind methods and a powerful built-in schema browser. HTML templates are supported for displaying and editing entries, and LDIF templates can be used for quickly adding new entries. A built-in X.509 parser displays a detailed view of certificates and CRLs with active links. Changes: Some bugfixes and code cleaning, and minor changes in stand-alone mode (detaching from console).
About: phpGroupWare (formerly known as webdistro) is a multi-user groupware suite written in PHP. Its provides a Web-based calendar, todo-list, addressbook, email, news headlines, and a file manager. The calendar supports repeating events. The email system supports inline graphics and file attachments. The system as a whole supports user preferences, themes, user permissions, multi-language support, an advanced API, and user groups. Changes: Fixes for javascript pop-up addressbook in email and a security hole in logout.php, support for owner and date due fields in the todo list, a new day view calendar, hovering descriptions, a new calendar layout, a file manager program, a news headlines program, and other bugfixes.
About: QVocab is a program that should help you to learn the vocabulary of a foreign language. You add your words into a simple database file, the program asks you the words and you try to answer with the corresponding word of the other language. A known word will move up one level (there are five of them) and if you didn't know its meaning, it is moved to the first level again. Changes: Bugfixes, a new converter program (txt2qvo), a man page, and a Debian package.
About: IDebug is an advanced debugging framework for Java. It provides the standard core debugging and specification constructs such as assertions, debug levels and categories, stack traces, and specialized exceptions. Debugging functionality can be fine-tuned to a per-thread and/or a per-class basis, debugging contexts can be stored and recovered from persistent store, and several aspects of the debugging run-time are configurable at the meta-level. About: srvx is a services package written in C from the ground up, for IRC networks that are based on IRCu 2.10.*. It is both highly efficient and extensible. Its features include Wingate, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 proxy detection, and all the standard services users expect (ChanServ, NickServ, OpServ, Global). Changes: Addition of NickServ with a working database, and various bugfixes.
About: Jungle Monkey (JM) is a distributed file-sharing program. You join channels where people offer files for download, and you can also offer your own files and create your own channels. Searching and chat are also supported. Changes: A new file transfer protocol, vast GTK GUI improvements, and minor bugfixes.
About: tcsysmon is a dock app that monitors Mem/Swap/DiskIO/Uptime and displays blinky lights for your interrupts and page in/outs. Its goal is to display as many real-time system statistics as possible with a minimum of CPU usage. It includes MMX routines for faster updates on newer CPUs. Changes: A fix for a stupid typo in monitor.c which prevented compiles under 2.2 kernels and a small Makefile fix.
About: Mailreader is the fully-featured, MIME-compliant, Web-based POP3 email client that powers Mailreader.com. It should work with any browser, including Lynx. Changes: A new German translation of the interface.
About: hping is a network tool able to send custom ICMP/UDP/TCP packets and to display target replies like ping does with ICMP replies. It handles fragmentation and arbitrary packet body and size, and can be used to transfer files under supported protocols. Using it you can test firewall rules, perform (spoofed) port scanning, test net performance using different protocols, packet size, TOS (type of service), and fragmentation, do path MTU discovery, transfer files (even between fascist firewalls), perform traceroute-like actions under different protocols, fingerprint remote OSs, audit a TCP/IP stack, etc. It is a good tool for learning TCP/IP. Changes: Raw IP support, improved ICMP support, *BSD port bugfixes, an out-of-sequence packets counter, more control with fragmentation, and updates to documentation.
About: LAME (LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder) is a research project for learning about and improving MP3 encoding technology. LAME includes an MP3 encoding library, a simple frontend application, and other tools for sound analysis, as well as convenience tools. Please note that any commercial use (including distributing the LAME encoding engine in a free encoder) may require a patent license from Thomson Multimedia. Changes: Lots of Variable Bit Rate fixes and a decode option.
About: NCO (the netCDF Operators) facilitate manipulation and analysis of self-describing data stored in the (freely available) netCDF or HDF4 formats. Changes: A fix for a bug introduced in nco-1.1.15 (November 1998) with ncdiff version 1.5 that could cause incorrect answers when the broadcast feature was used and dimensions were defined in a certain order (that appears to be favored by oceanographers), and new features in ncra and ncrcat.
About: Expresso Framework is an open standards-based J2EE architectural framework that allows the developer to concentrate on application logic. It is a library of extensible Java Server application framework components for creating database-driven Web applications based on open standards. Expresso integrates with Apache Jakarta Struts, which emphasizes presentation and application configuration, and bringing a powerful tag library to Expresso. Expresso adds capabilities for security, robust object-relational mapping, background job handling and scheduling, self-tests, logging integration, automated table manipulation, database connection pooling, email connectivity, event notification, error handling, caching, internationalization, XML automation, testing, registration objects, configuration management, workflow, automatic database maintenance, and a JSP tag library. Changes: This release includes a number of bug fixes and some fairly major enhancements including fully configurable date/time handling, failsafe connection pooling, transaction "blocks", job object enhancements, configurable database wildcards, and enhanced internationalization language support.

About: The Glasgow Haskell Compiler is a robust, fully-featured, optimising compiler for the functional programming language Haskell. GHC compiles Haskell to either native code or C. It implements numerous experimental language extensions to Haskell for example concurrency, a foreign language interface, several type-system extensions, exceptions, and so on. GHC comes with a generational garbage collector, a space and time profiler, and a comprehensive set of libraries. Changes: A new profiling subsystem, significant reworking of the native code generator, a huge number of bugfixes, and extensive testing.
About: SILC (Secure Internet Live Conferencing) is a protocol which provides secure conferencing services in the Internet. It can be used to send any kind of messages, in addition to normal text messages. This includes multimedia messages like images, video, and audio stream. All messages in the SILC network are encrypted and authenticated, and messages can also be digitally signed. SILC protocol supports AES, SHA-1, PKCS#1, PKCS#3, X.509, OpenPGP, and is being developed in the IETF. The software is delivered as SILC Client for end users, SILC Server for system administrators, and SILC Toolkit for application developers. Changes: This release adds PING, NAMES, and INVITE commands, SILC protocol compliant public keys, a lot new code, and bugfixes.
About: ISO8211lib is a C++ library for reading ISO8211-formatted files, such as SDTS and S-57 format data. Changes: This release adds several significant bugfixes, especially for reading irregular S-57 datasets.
About: Apache::ASP provides an Active Server Pages port to the Apache Web Server with Perl as the host scripting language. Apache::ASP allows a developer to create dynamic Web applications with session management and embedded Perl code. There are also many powerful extensions, including XML taglibs, XSLT rendering, and new events not originally part of the ASP API. Changes: First freshmeat announcement.
About: Webplay creates, from a collection of MP3s and Ogg Vorbis files (indexed from a directory or MySQL/PostgreSQL database), a Web-based jukebox with support for multiple independent streams. If Lame/oggenc are available, it can change the bitrate or codec of a file in real time to a selectable value. Each user controls their stream via a Web interface and can skip back, forward, or to a specific track; increment or decrement the bitrate; and check the current playlist, song, or bitrate. Playlists can be looped, randomized, played locally on the webserver, edited, deleted, reused, or renamed. Changes: This release adds a much-improved Configuration, randomization and looping of playlists, a goto track feature, new icons, better error handling of poorly-named mp3s and id3 tags, and fixes for portability issues related to Solaris and FreeBSD.
About: Nessus is a remote security scanner for Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, Windows, and Mac OS X. It is plugin-based and performs over 20,000 security checks. It allows for reports to be generated in HTML, and suggests a solution for each finding. Changes: This release adds a new vulnerability level, bugfixes for SMB problems, a dozen new security checks, and OpenBSD support.
About: Yafc is yet another FTP client which features a directory cache, remote filename completion, aliases, colorized ls, recursive get/put/ls/rm, nohup mode transfers, tagging (queueing), multiple connections, proxy support, and more. It has also support for Kerberos authentication and SSH2 (sftp). Changes: Bugfixes and a system-wide yafcrc have been added. Directory cache problems have been fixed. The experimental newt tag interface has been removed.
About: ProcLog is a procmail log reporting and summary tool. It provides both a console and X Windows interface which shows you where all of your email was filed. Changes: Initial annoucment on Freshmeat. ProcLog is very stable and ready for serious use.
About: ToolBot is an easy to use IRC bot which provides various services for IRC channels. ToolBot does not try to compete with infobots or eggdrop-like bots. Rather, ToolBot strives to provide the features that other bots lack. Changes: Initial announcement. Things are pretty unstable right now, as features are being added and bugs fixed at a rapid pace.
About: BIEW (Binary vIEW) is a portable advanced file viewer with a built-in editor for binary, hexadecimal, and disassembler modes. It contains a highlight Java/AVR/PentiumIV/Athlon-64 disassembler, full preview of MZ, NE, PE, LE, LX, DOS.SYS, NLM, ELF, a.out, arch, coff32, PharLap, and rdoff executable formats, a code guider, and many other features. Changes: Several misc. bugfixes have been made. Coff386 format navigation has been extended. The twin library and vio.c have been rewritten in an endian-independant manner. There is a qualitive speedup of Win32 input/output, and a new skin has been added.
About: Smurf is a GTK-based SoundFont editor. SoundFont files are a collection of audio samples and other data that describe instruments for the purpose of composing music. SoundFont files do not describe the music itself, but rather the sounds of the instruments. These instruments can be composed of any digitally recordable or generated sound. This format provides a portable and flexible sound synthesis environment that can be supported in hardware or software. Note that Swami is the successor to Smurf and is an entire object-oriented rewrite of it. Changes: Added in this version are better sample handling with libsndfile, raw sample loading, key velocity set/view, sample exporting, root key set/view, international language support, find feature, multiple item deletes, limited native ALSA MIDI support, OSS emulation which works with ALSA 0.5.8, sound font information set/view, and sample selections.
About: GObject Builder (GOB) is a simple preprocessor for easily creating GObjects (glib objects). It reads a class description file with inline C code and produces .c and .h object files for you. It allows you to easily use most of the features of the GObject system and avoids typos by reducing the amount of code needed. In general, the amount of code is about the same as for OO languages such as Java or C++, but you still have to only use C and you get all the power of the GObject system. Changes: "Const self", and a _CONST cast macro have been added. Objects should compile with Glib/GTK+ 1.3 (to become 2.0). The parent handler is properly called for destroy and finalize. Fixes were made in the documentation and examples
About: The Kiwi Toolkit is a foundation class library containing many useful classes that complement the Java Foundation Classes (JFC). It includes many classes and components that were not provided with the JFC, such as a TreeTable component, a DateChooser, an MVC charting package (bar charts, line charts, pie charts), a plugin framework for Java, an application resource manager (for loading images, icons, HTML pages, audio clips, and other resources from JAR files), a better internationalization API, and much more. Changes: Minor internationalization changes have been made.
About: EText Reader (ETR) is a program for reading ETexts from Project Gutenberg texts. It allows selection of font, and foreground and background colors, as well as persistant reading position and bookmarking. It supports browsing, searching, and direct downloading of Project Gutenberg ETexts. It features a built-in online dictionary for instant word definitions while reading. Changes: No new functionality, but "configure" scripts have been added for *nix. Hopefully, this will ease compilation under these platforms.
About: Maildrop is a powerful email filter/delivery agent. It supports mbox-style mailboxes and maildirs (a mail storage format used by Qmail). Its mail filtering language supports RFC822 parsing and GDBM/Berkeley DB database files. The maildrop package also includes a command-line tool to perform various operations on MIME messages. Changes: Berkeley DB 3.0 support has been added. There are fixes for glibc 2.2. Reformime has been patched to avoid clobbering existing files.
About: XMLBoard Solo is an alternative to the XMLBoard script, and written by the same author. It has all the features of XMLBoard, but its XML parser is internal, meaning the requirements for running it are much easier to satisfy. It does not require the installation of the perl module XML::Parser, and it does not require the latest Apache version. XMLBoard Solo is for anyone who is intrigued with the features of XMLBoard, but can't install a separate perl module. Changes: Initial release.
About: larswm is a modified version of the 9wm window manager that adds virtual desktops, automatic window tiling, and many other features designed to make it a highly efficient user environment. One of the design goals is that you should never have to manually shuffle windows around on the screen. Another is that it should use as little CPU time, RAM, and screen space for itself as possible. Changes: Keyboard shortcuts have been added for moving between windows, desktops, and screens. Colors are now configurable. There is now smarter window focusing with multi-screen displays.
About: McFeely makes it possible to run multiple programs, in a specified order, on multiple hosts. It was created to solve the problem of automatically managing users at an ISP where the users have resources like home directories on multiple machines. Changes: Documentation was improved and significant performance enhancements were made. There are now fewer external requirements. Bug fixes and improved error checking were made throughout the code.
About: Glimmer is an all-purpose programmer's editor for Linux. Features include revert, find/replace, goto line, syntax highlighting, multiple-level undo/redo, tear-away windows, quick access popup menu, auto-indenting, Python scripting support, and many other standard editor features. Changes: More work was done on GtkExText il8n support, and the main window can now be shrunken. Global Find/Replace settings were added, and they are saved between uses and sessions. Cursor backup saving was added into GtkExText so that it acts like other editors when changing to lines shorter than the current one. Fixes were made for a Find/Replace segfault, some problems with gdstearaway size allocation, and some problems with multi-line selections.
About: mbackup is a framework for building backup applications. Changes: New modules were added and general bugfixes were made. A TODO list has been added for interested developers.
About: motion uses a video4linux device for detecting movement. It makes snapshots of the movement which can be converted to MPEG movies in realtime (or later for low CPU usage), making it usable as an observation or security system. It can take actions like sending out email and SMS messages when detecting motion. Changes: A lightswitch filter was added, and motion can now be made insensitive to sudden light changes.
About: Icecast is a streaming media server which currently supports Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio streams. It can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between. It is very versatile in that new formats can be added relatively easily, and it supports open standards for communication and interaction. Changes: Bugfixes.
