Absolute Linux is a lightweight Slackware derivative that uses an Icewm, pcmanfm, ROX-Filer, ivman, and others to create a lightweight yet easy to use distribution. Installation is text-based but simplified, and all packages are installed at once. It can run on a Pentium II and above, including SMP systems. A minimum 128MB RAM is recommended. It features ease of browsing any connected device in pcmanfm and an auto-popup menu for inserted playable media. "Restricted" codecs are available to those eligible via a root-user installer. There is a large range of software available, including OpenOffice, Mplayer, GIMP, and K3B.

Changes: The lightweight Midori browser was added to the base install with an option in the control panel to change the default Web browser. Several applications were updated. Many more updates were made related to interface tweaking, filetype handling, etc.

Changes: This pre-release includes fixes for slapt-get and wicd, the addition of a control panel, centralizing control, and eliminating the sometimes-confusing utilities menus. Big updates to Midori and inkscape on repositories (under /CD2). A new theme, new login, and QT4 up and running several new applications along with QT4-based K3B. Overall, a more cohesive look and simpler navigation. This release candidate is so that 13.0 will not necessitate updates, and to obtain feedback on whether Midori is functional enough to become the default browser (it uses about 1/3 the memory of Firefox in testing).

Changes: The interface has been updated along with the kernel, Python, and packaging system, which is now txz-based. Due to higher compression, the main release contains much more than previously: OpenOffice and Java, as well as many other applications now fit on a single CD. Pcmanfm and rox have both been modified to seamlessly work with the TXZ package archives as well as the new "Add/Remove Programs" item in the root menu. A new volume control (now in the system tray, and sleeker). A new theme and more complete file type handling.

Changes: The Qt4 and KDE4 libraries were updated. K3B and smplayer were updated accordingly. Several other additions and many updates were made. Some programs were moved to CD2 and /extra.

Changes: This release includes kernel 2.6.28.8, a couple of new programs, updates and libraries, and /extra packages peeled off from returning CD2. (CD2 is zipped and includes Java runtime, OpenOffice, Pidgin, kernel sources, etc.)

Absolutely.
Did you already encounter simple and elegant use cases with *data loss* thanks to ROX-Filer? Its XML desktop is even more horror than the Slackware itself :-(
Absolute-OS
I am happy to see the birth of this os. It seems to me to support the ideals of open source/ linux those ideals being a focus on individual applications to get stuff done in contrast to a monolithic structure to get everything done. I hope this os has a long life. Thank you.
