Godlike app
This is the best IM app for OS X by a long chalk. If you only use IM then get Adium, it won't help you with all those other protocols, but it's fast, has a plethora of features and most importantly, doesn't make your system sluggish, very important for my humble 600Mhz iBook.

Also, the flapping, honking bird icon is too good not to have in your dock.
