Projects / aee

aee

aee is a text editor that is intended to be usable with little or no instruction. It provides both a terminal (curses based) interface and native X-Windows interface (in which case the executable is called xae). Features include pop-up menus, journalling (to recover from system crash or loss of connection), cut-and-paste, multiple buffers (associated with files or not), and much more.

Thanks for the heads up. There is a short description, but you are right that it doesn't show up anymore. I've modified the description to say it is a text editor.

      Description not that clear...
I'm not sure if this is a problem with the description you give, or with Freshmeat for not showing the Appindex categories on the front page anymore, but it isn't exactly clear from the front page listing what aee actually is - it's not in the description at all :-)

      Better then vi
I have been using it for close to a year now with no complaints. I was using vi, but, for programming that became a serious pain in the ass. I do a lot of programing on an old P-90 laptop using only the console. I tried emacs and gave up in 10 minutes.

I am upset to see that this is not being updated anymore. There are a few issues the be resolved. Searching and replace has a problem when you use certian combantions. I can't post them here becuase there HTML tags. There is also a problem is you go through the menu too quickly. I have crashed it like 20 times doing it. I have since learned to slow down.

The spell checking is a little odd also. I think this could have been done a little better.

Outside of that this is a nice little program and I will be using it for years to come.
