Changes: The portal is now fully customizable by using the Web GUI. Either XML file or SQL database backends may be used for portal configuration and user profiles. LDAP integration was added for user authentication. Many standard portlets were added for more out-of-the-box functionality. The package is bundled with several default skins.

Changes: This release includes better integration with the Apache Turbine framework, a simplified installation procedure, servlet 2.2 WAR support, WML devices support, prototype user customization support, improved configuration, and development documentation.

Changes: Many implemented Portal features, integration with other Java/XML Apache projects such as Cocoon, Turbine, and ECS, and better architecture/stability.

Changes: JetSpeed 1.0 b2 introduces a new API named Portlets. A Portlet is similar in design to a Servlet/Applet except it runs on the server.

Changes: Implemented more features to make JetSpeed more usable as a mail client (deleting, forwarding) as well as fixed many implementation bugs. The API has been improved to support Portal development.

There are several sites based on Jetspeed (you can check the Jetspeed website for
more information).
There's also one online demonstration site maintained by David Taylor, one of the committers, running recent CVS code:
