AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP and displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a database for later retrieval. Collection types include network response, bandwidth usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco NetFlow. AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be in the order of milliseconds, to give immediate feedback on network performance, and it can also graph flow information from packet capture files. AsItHappens includes the Self Defending Network, a horizontal shoot-em-up based on collected graph data.

Recent releases

Changes: This release adds the ability to poll and graph arbitrary OID values from an SNMP MIB.

Changes: This release fixes several bugs, including port enumeration failure for devices without ifAlias information, failure to store read-write community strings, the inability to enter boundary times in currently collecting sessions, incorrect x-axis scaling of stored session graphs, and initialization failures for NBAR and Netflow graphs. This release also adds the ability to customize the line positioning, style, and color for each data set on a graph.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that prevented NBAR and NetFlow graphs from launching when the "ifAlias" configuration option was enabled. It also fixes a bug that prevented session times from being dynamically updated when used with an empty database, and another bug that resulted in the sessions updater thread not shutting down cleanly.

Changes: This release adds the display of extra descriptive information (ifAlias) for port lists. It contains some improvements in the "Sessions" panel, including automatic updating of session times, support for deleting multiple sessions at once, and the sorting of sessions by collection start time. This release also fixes an erroneous default setting that causes collecting graphs to use only the bottom 20% of the graph area.

Changes: This release fixes incorrect definition of the level 9 boss in the Self Defending Network.

I've been using asithappens on and off for a couple years now
and I have to say it's the best real time SNMP monitor I've
found.
To top it off Mark has answered both of my questions incredibly
promptly and has been an absolute pleasure to interact with.
Many thanks!
