Athene is a desktop system for Linux that uses its own graphics drivers for high speed access to your graphics card. Because the Athene desktop and its applications have direct access to the graphics hardware, they have a significant speed advantage over conventional X applications. Athene is also backwards compatible with your existing X11 software. It features a highly responsive interface, scalable icons, translucency, alpha blending, Unicode support, and Windows compatibility.

Changes: Resolution and display management functionality were improved. File and folder security information were added to the file manager. New hot-keys such as alt-tab window focusing were added. Dead-key support for international keyboards was added. Some bugs have also been fixed.

Changes: This release features much faster imaging for X11, the ZTerm is now fully functional, SDL library and games are now available, there is support for context mouse pointers, there is improved gradient blending, and there are bugfixes.

I like how flexible and easy to configure this system is. I've written themes for other window managers (fvwm2, olwm, twm, and WindowMaker). Using XML is a novel concept. Keep it up. :-)
