AWStats
Advanced Web Statistics (AWStats) is a free powerful Web server logfile analyzer (Perl script) that shows you all your Web statistics including visits, unique visitors, pages, hits, rush hours, search engines, keywords used to find your site, robots, broken links, and more. It works with both IIS 5.0+ and Apache Web server log files as a CGI and/or from the command line. It also supports multiple languages including English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, German, Polish, and Greek.

Changes: The name of the config file used to build data files was added to the data files header. Version details were added for Chrome, Opera, Safari, and Konqueror browsers. AdobeAir detection was added. A major update of the browsers, robots, and search_engines databases was made, including the addition of the Bing search engine. Bot detection was improved. The Breton language was added. Sub-pages were added for geoip maxmind modules in awstats_buildstaticpages. Some bugs were fixed.

Changes: The database of robots and search engines was expanded with support for Google Chrome browser, Wii, and more. The languages files were updated. A security fix and other changes were made.

Changes: All geoip plugins support the PurePerl version. A possible use of vhost was added in the extra section. IPv6 is supported in the AllowAccessFromWebToFollowingIPAddresses parameter. The svn family was added to browser detection. Some Perl warnings were removed. lc() on translation strings was removed. The migrate parameter was not sanitized. urlxxx parameters that could be used for XSS attacks were not sanitized. The AWStats version has been added in stdout outputs. Some language files were updated. The browser database was updated.

True, the first security hole in AWStats life was found in december but was fixed two days after.
You can download stable 6.3 from AWStats web site to fix it.
security problems
I'd been using awstats for a while, and it seemed nice enough. However, there seems to be a pretty serious security hole:

The changelog and the FreeBSD port seem to indicate that the bug is in 6.2, and is fixed in 6.3. However, freshmeat, sourceforge, and the BSD ports system (after a fresh cvsup) don't seem to show any signs that 6.3 actually exists.
Some clarification from the developer would be very helpful. I'm looking for a different program now.

you must be non-techie...
or newbie or just blind
and well... stupid (sorry, just conclusion),
awstats is very good program, with nice documentation
works flawless and is not very hard to configure
did you read tfm?
Re: Great Program
This program looks great, but the website doesn't seem to give instructions on installation for us non-techies. There seems to be a few options to download. What do I download, and where to install?
I own my website, but not the server it is on. It is on a Unix server with, I believe Apache software. I have logs to read and CGI access. Do I install it in the CGI folder?
