GNU binutils work mostly behind the scenes of Linux development, largely because GNU make and the GCC frontend does so many things automatically. Utilities include: ld as nm objdump objcopy nm ar ranlib strip c filt size addr2line and dlltool.

Changes: 37 coding problems in bfd were resolved, including static array overruns, null pointer dereferences, and use of a malloc buffer after it has been freed. The binutils sources are now released under GPLv3. A new tool "windmc" has been added for some targets. Codepage support was added to the windres tool. The --extract-symbol command line option was added.
