The Contest program is designed to test system responsiveness by running Linux kernel compilation under a number of different load conditions. It is designed to compare different kernels, not different machines. It uses real workloads you would expect to find for short periods of time in everyday machines, but sustains them for the duration of a kernel compile to increase the signal to noise ratio.

Changes: Many little bugfixes were made. The resolution of read and IO loads was increased, and an io_other load was added. dbench_load was corrected to dbench num_cpus*16. More detailed instructions were included, and the man page was updated.


Changes: Massive changes were made, with a complete rewrite of all elements in C, implementation of the internally-used cacherun and dbench_loads, a new progress bar, cold cache, debug, and no cleanup options. The default was changed to 3 runs of contest and all loads. Process_load was rewritten, and a new manual page was made.


Changes: list_load, read_load, xtar_load, and ctar_load were added. Further cleanups were done, and compiler issues were fixed.
