GnomeICU is a Gnome application which allows one to communicate with other GnomeICU users or others who use ICQ (Windows, Java, Mac, etc). With GnomeICU, one can send and receive messages, change online modes, send and receive URLs, and much more.

Changes: Compatiblity with newer window clients was added. GtkStatusIcon from GTK+ 2.10 is used, with a backport available for Gtk+ 2.8 users. The ignore, visible, invisible, and online notify lists now instantly apply. Lots of bugs were fixed.

Changes: Some people had problems connecting recently, this release should fix it. The login code was the oldest code from the v7 port, and was in a dire need of rewriting. GnomeICU has also been ported to use GtkStatusIcon and GOption. The required version of GTK+ is now 2.6. But you will need 2.10 if you want to have the status icon. You can still use the applet for older versions. The history parsing should now work properly with long messages. There are also many other assorted protocol and UTF-8 bugfixes.

Changes: This release was updated for protocol changes, fixing problems with receiving messages from recent versions of the Windows ICQ client.

Changes: A recent change in the ICQ protocol has caused GnomeICU to constantly disconnect. This is the main issue fixed. There are other bugfixes, new translations, UI improvements, etc.

Changes: This is the next release on the road towards 1.0. New things include more HIG fixes, removal of the libgnet dependency, optional spell checking, faster history display, improved code quality, complete client-side intelligent send rate limiting, a new and updated translation, and lots of bugfixes.

Recent commentsBuffer Overflow attack on gnomeICU version 0.96.1
I have recently recieved messages through my ICQ
account from a person using the 'Personal
World-Wide-Pager' available at www.ICQ.com
The messages were part of a buffer Overflow attack
which would crash gnomeICU and run shell commands.
The person sending the messages knew Exactly what
they were doing.
I am using gnomeICU version 0.96.1
Xfree86-4.01 on debian2r2
If anyone else has any information reguarding this
I would appreciate a responce.

Yeah, I had this one try copying the GnomeICU
dir from /usr/local/share - /usr/share probably
not an ideal solution but it fixes the problem :)

Bug in displaying icons
I can't see any icon or image and I get this error:
Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkpixmap.c: line 812 (gdk_pixmap_ref): assertion `pixmap != NULL' failed.
