Although there is a problem with slower machine, this is exactly the solution that I deploy on one of the computers in my home office to streaming mp3 files across the room.
It works great on Windows, and it saves a lot of disk space. Plus, it sounds like cool to have some kind of "music server" at home.
Nowadays that I work at home and spend a few hours a day blogging, music keeps me occupied and entertained.
Thank you.
Perfect and easy!
I recently bought a couple of Linux eee UMPC and i wanted to be able to watch movies and listen to music without storing any media on the eee's. Gnump3d was the easiest solution i have seen so far. It was very easy to setup and i really like the web interface.
Its very nice that it can generate the file lists by itself. Whatever i put into my media directory is imediately avaliable for the clients.
Good job guys, and hey, thanks!

GNUMP3d is now part of Debian GNU/Linux!
If you're running the unstable version of Debian you may install it with a simple 'apt-get install gnump3d'.
(Just read the FAQ to see if there are any problems at the moment.. ;)
