gtkbfc (GTK+ bash file chooser) is a hack that replaces the slow and hard-to-use GTK+ file chooser with an rxvt-unicode window that runs a little script that lets you use readline (and tab-completion) to enter filenames.

you can do completion in gtk2 file chooser (although it's highly inobvious): move the focus to the file area (not where it starts) and press keys corresponding to file path part in question.

    ah, but the problem is not that you cannot do completion, but that a) it takes many more keypresses and b) it takes almost 1.5 minutes to select a file in /usr/bin using the gtk+ file selector, even worse for nfs and c) yes, you have to wait :(
