The GNU inetutils are a collection of common networking utilities and servers including ftp, ftpd, rcp, rexec, rlogin, rlogind, rsh, rshd, syslog, syslogd, talk, talkd, telnet, telnetd, tftp, tftpd, and uucpd.

Changes: The --environment and --resolve options were added. Numeric port names are now allowed as service names. inetd now creates a PID file. rcp supports the -V option. rshd and rexecd switch to the user's home directory after authenticating. rlogin supports XON/XOFF without needing -8. syslogd now can disable forwarding. talk allows 8-bit ASCII. telnet is not subject to certain DNS spoofing to foil Kerberos authentication.


Changes: Kerberos 5 support was added to telnet(d), rsh(d), and rlogin(d) using GNU Shishi. TLS support was added to ftp using GNUTLS.


Changes: This release fixes a bug in the telnet client, that prevented DES-CBC-MD5 keys from working.


Changes: This release reduces the number of places the code assumes DES is used, to simplify for future non-DES encryption algorithms.
