Intel IA32 Microcode Update Utility

The microcode_ctl utility is a companion to the Linux IA32 microcode driver present in recent kernels (2.2.18+ / 2.4.x / 2.6.x). It decodes and sends new microcode to the kernel driver to be uploaded to Intel IA32 family processors.

Any way to tell what chips are updated?
Even if we can't get a changelog, is there anyway to tell which chips are included in the changelog and what version of the firmware you have without installing and updating?
