kpl is a KDE program for two- and three-dimensional graphical presentation of data sets and functions (plotter). Multidimensional nonlinear parameter fits of functions to data sets can be performed using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. General linear least square parameter fits are also possible. A DCOP interface can be used to control Kpl by other applications and scripts.

Changes: Multiple spline items can now be fitted simultaneously to the same array item. Colored symbol pixmaps are now displayed in the item list. Text of legend and text items is displayed in the item list. Notifications about completed plots and parameter fits can be set.

Changes: EPS files can now be embedded in Kpl plots. Regions may be filled by patterns. Previews of PostScript output are available.

Changes: Root finding in functions and splines can now be performed. Plot items may be moved within the item list by drag and drop. The mouse can be used to rescale a plot.

Changes: In this release, three-dimensional plots of data sets and function now can be performed, and smoothing spline interpolation is available for two- and three-dimensional plots of data sets.

Changes: KDE 2.2 is now a requirement. Data sets can be optionally saved within plot files, and column separator for exported files can be selected.

I find this program VERY neat and easy to use
for even naive users, yet ok for power users.
I think that it should be included in the main stream
KDE. It is a lot more comfortable than grace to name
a fairly good one.
This is what a decent spreadsheet program should
offer instead of what's currently avalaibale (excel, OO,
kspread...). I found only a minor bug in the print
output (wrong char spacing) but postscript output
are fine (good eps with correct BB). It does not
duplicate what is available in drawing programs
(StarDraw...) and therefore focusses on the main
issues: link with .so libraries is very convenient and
simple, drag and drop of plain text file is spectacular
and just what people need most, including simple
.csv files usable in spreadsheets.
