Kubuntu is a Linux distribution that is based on Ubuntu. The main difference from standard Ubuntu is that KDE is used instead of GNOME. Its aim is to be a great integrated distribution that uses the full potential of the KDE desktop.

Changes: There are two versions for this release: one with KDE 3, which is more stable, and one with KDE 4, which has newer features.


Changes: This release, codenamed Edgy Eft, is the first distribution to include KDE 3.5.5. It includes improved power management and laptop button support, and adds a client for the Ubuntu hardware database. Zeroconf setup was made easier. Accessibility profiles on install were added.


Changes: This release is available for download as CD or DVD images or, for the first time, you can order free Kubuntu CDs through Shipit. This release comes with KDE 3.5.2 and includes a new installer which you can use directly from the live desktop CD. This release focuses on stability and bugfixes, as this is the first Long Term Support release, and it will be supported for 3 years on the desktop and 5 years on the server.


Changes: This release comes with the very latest KDE 3.4.3 and includes the new Guidance configuration tools. It also includes the Adept package manager, System Settings, and KDE Bluetooth.


Changes: This release adds KDE 3.4.2 with new Systemsettings replacing KControl and a simplified Konqueror interface.
