mp3cleanup

mp3cleanup is used to tidy up various aspects of MP3 files, including filenames, ID3 tags, path, m3u playlists, and bitrate. This is particularly useful for hardware MP3 players that sometimes have arbitrary limitations on the files they work (well) with. It can operate on single files or on all the files contained in a directory.

Changes: The -k option was added to check MP3s for bad frames before processing. The -D option was added to increase search depth. The -b option was added to create DOS format .m3u playlists. The -C option was added to copy rather than move. The (experimental) -g option was added to set the genre. Type "list" or "l" to get a list of genre numbers. Support for Ogg Vorbis files was added. The default maximum filename length was reduced to 52 chars (for iRiver). eyeD3 is used as well as id3tag to set tags, since sometimes tags were left inconsistent.

Changes: showbr is now a symlink to clipbr, which works in dummy mode (and thus does not actually resample files) if run as showbr. Handling of default track numbers in forced interactive mode was improved. A bug that prevented files found in directories from being processed in alphanumeric order was fixed. mkm3u now creates m3u playlists that are named the same way that mp3cleanup normally does by replacing slashes ("/") in the specified directory name with dots ("."). mkm3u only includes files named *.[mM][pP]3 in playlists.

Changes: The program now treats a year tag of 0 as missing. clipbr handles path/filenames with spaces properly. The default title is shown in the second and subsequent interactive title requests. Titles are no longer carried forward from one track to another in forced interactive mode.

Changes: clipbr cleans up temp files if it aborts. mp3cleanup moves onto the next file if it's processing a directory and it isn't possible to process a file (e.g. missing tags in non-interactive mode). There are more bugfixes for handling of tags containing spaces. A typo has been corrected for forced-interactive mode. Playlists are named /artist.year.album.m3u instead of /year.album.m3u. Paths and file names containing spaces are handled properly. There is a minor bugfix regarding help option handling. This release looks for files matching *.[mM][pP]3 instead of *.mp3 (i.e. case doesn't matter).
