MyPaint is a program for painting images from scratch. It supports pressure sensitive graphic tablets and comes with an easy to use brush collection. There is a complex interface for creating your own brushes, focusing on brush dynamics (changes with speed, pressure, or randomly). The canvas size is unlimited, and undo and layers are supported.

Recent releases


Changes: This release adds a color history, support for eliptical dabs, new brushes, and background patterns. Other new functions (e.g. merging layers) have been added. There were lots bugfixes and usability tweaks.


Changes: This release adds layer support. With that comes support for transparency, an eraser mode for every brush, and the OpenRaster file format. Other major additions include canvas rotation (slow), background patterns, a new color popup, and some new clean brushes.


Changes: Apart from new brushes, this release includes only minor additions like full screen mode, a new desktop icon, and the option to use global pressure mapping. Error handling was added and several bugs were fixed.
