NetMess

NetMess is a peer-to-peer file sharing system. Its advantages over other p2p systems include clone detection and the ability to work through an HTTP proxy and through most firewalls (both inbound and outbound). NetMess can also run in a LAN environment, serving as a nice information sharing system for small to middle-sized companies. NetMess allows its users to search and retrieve documents without having to remember their exact location.

Changes: This release fixes random corruption in backend data which caused downloads to be redirected in cosmos (this was introduced by the cache system).

Changes: This version fixes the very annoying 'end user sessions bug' on some configurations. It also adds a cache to queries to speed up the network, and incorporates some fixes to both the client and Node Manager.

Changes: Remote control support was added to the client via a Web interface, allowing you to schedule downloads from your office directly to your home PC. Support for Microsoft proxy authentication, improved efficiency, updated documentation, forged packet protection, and many bugfixes were added.

Changes: An occasional core dump under Linux when exiting the netmess daemon, an occasional race condition in thread code, a small problem in the Client startup code have been fixed.

Changes: A little problem for NATed, directly connected Internet nodes was fixed. Better nodelists replication, a PING2 command in the network protocol, and better control of the MySQL daemon at statup were added. Log file garbage is no longer generated when trying to start multiple netmess nodes instances. An experimental IRC chat, improved memory usage, and some other general improvements were added to the client.
