OpenCms

OpenCms is a professional level open source Web site content management system. OpenCms helps to create and manage complex Web sites easily without knowledge of HTML. An integrated WYSIWYG editor with a user interface similar to well known office applications helps the user create the contents, while a sophisticated template engine enforces a site-wide corporate layout. OpenCms is based on Java and XML technology, so it fits perfectly into almost any existing modern IT infrastructure. OpenCms runs in a "full open source" environment (e.g. Linux, Apache, Tomcat, MySQL) as well as on commercial components (e.g. Windows NT, IIS, BEA Weblogic, Oracle DB).

Changes: This release contains lots of improvements and fixes that have been applied since the 5.0.0 release. Everyone who uses OpenCms is encouraged to upgrade to the 5.0.1 version. Most importantly, the issue with Properties of published resources that were not found in the Online project has been fixed. The JSP integration has been refactored to be more standards-compliant.

Changes: This release is far superior to OpenCms 4.x. Upgrading is recommended for all OpenCms users. A new template mechanism based on JSP and taglibs is included. JSP is a well documented standard, which is easy for Java programmers to learn. The created templates are extremely fast, and development of interactive functionality with JSP in OpenCms is straightforward. Full documentation and examples for OpenCms JSP templates have been made available.

Changes: A number of important features were added especially for the JSP integration and caching mechanism. The most visible change from previous versions is the new structure of the OpenCms workplace in the virtual file system (VFS), which now has a much more streamlined directory layout.
