phlyMail is a Webmail and PIM application. It features unlimited nested folders, unlimited POP3/IMAP profiles, quotas, an integrated address book, a calendar with reminders and repeated events, a file manager, SMS support (send SMS, get reminded of events via SMS, email notification via SMS), themes, and multilingual support. It uses either sendmail or SMTP to send email, and can handle MIME. Support for IDN (Internationalized Domain Names) is included. Through its modular design, various new functions (like RSS, personal file storage, a bookmark manager, etc.) are easily included. Contacts and events can be organized in groups.

Recent releases

Changes: A few minor issues were fixed. This build adds the capability to send vCard (.vcf) files to the address book, either from a mail message recevied or from the file manager. Additionally, calendars may be included in external programs like Mozilla Sunbird or any other program that can read ICS files form external sources.

Changes: Aside from a few minor bugfixes, this build adds the ability to send more than one file from the files manager via email at once.

Changes: The installer of Lite was not up to date, thus failing to find the DB driver for setting up the database. A Slovak translation has been added. Editing global contacts now adds the birthday to the calendar again.

Changes: Some minor bugs in the calendar and some compatibility issues with MySQL < 4.1.1 have been fixed in this build.

Changes: A few more issues experienced by users have been fixed, including problems where birthday events were not displayed correctly, editing contacts did not add birthday entries to the calendar correctly, and the new mail sound did not play correctly.

Yes, it is. But be aware, that you cannot update your installation to any future version of phlyMail, be it because of new features or of security fixes, without having to redo all your work.
Besides that I think, you will have to spend a lot of time to figure out all places to be changed.
I think, it's not worth the efforts - we already did that for you and offer the multi user branches at a reasonable price.
Licence
Website says restricted to 1 user, send $$$ to upgrade to multiuser versions. Is it permitted under the terms of the licence to modify out this restriction for own use ?

For PHlyMail now also runs fully under Windows, the project homepage has been updated as well as the categorization here at freshmeat.net.
Thanks again for pointing out the mistake.

Thank you very much for pointing that out. Although you can run it under quite any system, where PHP runs, there's one or two places (namely deleting a user) in the source, where currently only Linuxoid OS' are supported.
os independant?
project says os independant.
home page for project under 'system requirements' says:
- Linux or other UN*X like OS
