As for 99% of all OpenSource, its mission impossible to install if youre not an computer expert.

Wonder why these OpenSource people can't make a install solution like : point -> click -> install -> setup for humans -> run -> use.

[»] Safe Mode?
by PDJohe - Mar 25th 2003 04:09:57

I have trouble running your app in Safe Mode. In particular, it seems as if some scripts are trying to read /tmp (phpgroupware/phpgwapi/inc/class.sessions_php4.inc.php) when trying to read the session variables. Then I saw it again trying to read / in the scripts phpgroupware/phpgwapi/inc/functions.inc.php and phpgroupware/phpgwapi/inc/footer.inc.php, although I am not sure what this was connected to.

Would I have to use mysql sessions to view current logins if safe mode is turned on? And with the later problem, could this be from incorrect configuration or is this a limitation of the current project?

I am sorry phpgroupware will not run with safe_mode=on

There's a project to sync it with PalmOS devices.

You can find more information on

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpgwpalmsync/

    Regards.

I have updated this software to work with latest version of phpGroupWare. Check out:

The pda(palm) sync is being actively developed at the moment, it will form the basis for other sync interfaces for phpgroupware.

As for the accept/refuse via mail, we are working on iCal/vCal support in the next major release.

[»] install
by rich - Feb 1st 2002 20:22:08

The better the docs the easier it is to get software setup and running. When that happens more people use the software, and on and on. This is such a neat package, it's too bad that nobody has taken the time to sit down and give out the real instructions on how to install this and get it up and running.

[»] great potential ... but...
by be - Jan 12th 2002 09:54:43

almost 5 months ago i downloaded 0.9.12 ,set it up in a small (20 user) office environment and got it running nicely on an old pentium.i spent a lot of time fine tuning and training users, in the hope that it would one day, maybe, get to version 1 and be a little bit more credible.
gee it's taken a long time to get nowhere, nothing really works completely, a lot of of things almost work, but have bits missing, some things arent very user friendly and have no documentation. in the end i had to through it out and spend $700 on teamware.

Not to criticize(?) the work of the phpGroupware authors, but did you try other groupware applications?
There are several -free- alternatives to phpGroupware. For instance, MoreGroupware is extremely actively developed and quite stable!

at the time there were many alternatives, now a search for groupware shows 45 projects. perhaps groupware would be a suitable catgory for the "category reviews" section. like "financial packages", credible "groupware" applications certainly make linux a more attractive option for the business world.

That's a great idea; I'll try to find someone to do it. There isn't an obvious person for this job, so if you have any suggestions, let me know.

        Thanks,

Development has been going on at an insane rate and if you needed new features you were welcome to use the development code. We are a couple weeks from a new release, but it will still not be 1.0. In general I think phpGW is more than stable enough to be called 1.0 by most projects standards, but the phpGW team has a higher standard and we wont be rushed to call a release 1.0 just so you or anyone else can think its credible.
