Changes: SAML 1.0/1.1/2.0 and WS-Federation are supported. A single configuration paradigm is used for all protocols. Role-based access is used for differing administrator responsibilities. Support was added for multiple security domains acting as Identity Providers. A custom attribute source SDK was added, which enables developers to retrieve attributes from additional data sources such as those exposed with SOAP interfaces, flat files, and custom interfaces.

Changes: Implements the SAML 2.0 protocol. A new second-generation GUI featuring Use Case-Driven Configuration: an intelligent configuration console that walks both first-time and experienced federation administrators through the end-to-end configuration process. Also introduces Enterprise Deployment Architecture, which makes federation a standalone service available throughout the enterprise. It allows an organization to connect multiple security domains, both internal and external, to the same server so that all configurations, partner trust relationships, and audit logs can be managed centrally.

Changes: This update contains a number of security and performance enhancements.
