Pizza Business 1.0-beta7 (notes about the statically linked binary package)
by Tony G - Feb 8th 2003 06:24:25
If you download the binary release, then you won't need any more files than
those attached in that release. You can start the binary right away without
having to think about hassling with dependencies. If you link something
statically it naturally increases in file size, but reduces problems with
dependencies and imho, also makes it more flexible to distribute files.
Therefore I chose to this from now on. Hope you like it as much as I do :)

WxWindows/GTK 2.2.9 required!!
by Tony G - Nov 10th 2002 14:19:00
Just wanted you to know, that WxWindows/GTK 2.2.9 is required to enjoy the
new version. Here on the freshmeat site, it seems that only 2.2.7 is
available for download in the stable branch. So, if you want to compile it
yourself, I recommend downloading 2.2.9 from the WxWindows web site

I just want to clarify that you should not need the wxWindows library if
you're using the linux executable. However, you WILL need the GTK+
library.

unexplained stalling issues!
by Tony G - Oct 1st 2002 16:49:47
Freshmeat crew, why is it being stalled? It has been like this for 44 hours
now, at the time I write this. It's one thing if you reject it, but .. why
stall it? Accept or reject, please. It drives me nuts ;-)

Because Ray is still waiting for you to reply to 20830, the request
tracker ticket he opened on your release 46 hours ago. We generally
wait 48 hours for a reply; if you don't reply to it soon, he'll
probably delete your submission and close the ticket.

Bugfix for the bugfix-reply
by Tony G - May 8th 2002 20:52:59
sorry. The comment got commented away ;P
Why not changing the name? Well, nothing but some info-files were added.
It didn't seem necessary. It felt n00bie to do that. Maybe it's some taught
behaviour of mine, or lack of self-confidence perhaps.

For submission of bugfixes, look at the last line of the
"TODO"-file.

I would love to, but the pizza-business-0.90.tar.gz file I downloaded and
unpacked did not have a TODO file. Here is a list of the files it
unpacks...
admin.cpp
admin.o
advertisement.cpp
advertisement.o
build.sh
buy_sell.cpp
buy_sell.cpp~
buy_sell.o
COPYING
Makefile
meny
meny.cpp
meny.o
qtMain.ui
staff.cpp
staff.o

Mike

Nevermind. I downloaded the latest file from this site (with the same
name) and it has the TODO file. Very confusing.

Goals -> TODO-list, README, CHANGELOG
by Tony G - May 1st 2002 10:25:34
I am gonna update the project: adding a TODO-list, README file and a
CHANGELOG.
I need a lot of help with the project, since I am not an elite programmer
myself.
I hope those files give you good guidelines.
Btw ..
Is there any need for commenting my existent code, or is it
self-explanatory?

Yes, it will compile successfully under Cygwin. I have tried that myself,
and it works flawless. Although, I got some problems later, while testing
the binary. It crashed for some strange reason, after a time, while
browsing the menu-system I have done. I still don't know why.
Regarding the screenshot, I say again: it's console-based, but if you want
a screenshot, I can add one, if you REALLY want one :)

Re: What about a screenshots or a more detailed description ?

It's like this:
I made a long description about the game, actually.
"Freshmeat crew" decided apparently to take it all away except
for the first sentence. They probably had some good reason for it. Anyway
.. a screenshot didn't seem necessary, since it's console-based (I
categorized it under "Console", but that too they stripped
away).
The description (unedited) something said like:
"A GUI would be nice to implement", "Need help from
everyone who know C++", "needs optimization", and so on.
It is pure beginner-code, and a LOT needs to be done here.
That's why I decided to publish it here - to get help from people.

Then it's no surprise that your description was pruned. A project
description should be as timeless as possible. Time-sensitive
information and comments about current status and future directions
should go in release notes.
Even if your full description had been there, it would have said
virtually nothing about the game. We still don't know if it's a card
game or a text adventure.

yes, that is true. To be honest, I've read to much about projects on
sourceforge where they describe their projects in the manner -I- did. I
misunderstood the whole thing there, obviously.
Now, afterwards, I understand exactly what I should have written in that
field.
I just hope that people looking at the sourcecode won't laugh -too- much.
I am a beginner at C++ coding. This is the first project that I've taken
seriously and given some time to bug test, show my friends, coded at both
day and night - weekdays and weekends.
1. Enjoy, or 2. laugh evil. I hope you choose number 1 ;)

Correction.
My style of describing the game: more of a TODO-list than anything else.
It was NOT an insult to sourceforge projects - I don't know what I would do
w/o Sourceforge. It really rocks!

I think no one will laugh at your code, everyone
was a beginner at the beginning :-)
The only important thing is trying to improve your skill
time by time and not to give up.
