root-tail is a program that allows printing of text directly to the X11 root window wherever you choose, much like running rxvt with a pixmap background but without the hassle and with more features.

Changes: This version adds a justify option, which gives a smooth right-hand margin, a 'cont-color' option, which allows the continuation marker to be a different color to log text, and the ability to specify a different font for each log file.

Changes: geometry now expects pixels, not characters. Locale settings for multibyte characters are respected, and proportional fonts are supported now. Several options have been added. --frame now draws the frame in exactly the right place. --shade and --outline options are taken into account properly when wrapping, clearing text, etc.

Changes: A bugfix was made for AMD64. Support was added for a virtual root window, which should make root-tail work with KDE. Clear and redraw fixes were made.

Changes: Initial lines are now displayed in the correct colour, and some documentation was fixed.

Recent comments0.0.4C
I made a small patch a while ago, and tried sending it to all people involved. Most bounced, and a few I just didn't hear anything from. So, I've decided to release a new version myself. I've called it 0.0.4C, and it can be downloaded on from the root-tail page.
Slowness
I have occassionally experienced the slowness problem, though since I upgraded to afterstep 1.7.150 and activated backingstore, I haven't had any problems... However, I am having a mixed results with the redrawing, and it seems to ignore the hight of the standard x geometry string (--geometry WxH+X+Y). Still, all in all, pretty cool stuff.
