ROX-Session is a simple and easy-to-configure session manager. It allows you to change window managers without logging out (and copes with window managers crashing) and provides a graphical configuration box for your X settings (default font, cursor blinking, mouse behavior, etc.). The default session starts ROX-Filer managing the background and one panel, but it can be easily reconfigured for other purposes.

Recent releases

Changes: A large number of small bugs were fixed. New settings for the Gamma, Screensaver, and Keyboard configlets were added. The freedesktop.org configuration directories are now used instead of the old CHOICESPATH ones.

Changes: The D-BUS API was too unstable, and it has been replaced by XML-RPC-over-X. If a D-BUS daemon process is started on login, it is now also killed when you log out. Python 2.2 should be supported again. A work-around for an OverflowError in PyGTK has been added.

Changes: ROX-Session has been rewritten in Python to make it easier to cope with the ever-changing D-BUS API. More versions of the D-BUS API are now supported.

Changes: Options were added for left-handed mouse users, DPMS, and keyboard repeat rates. D-BUS 0.22 is now supported (0.20 and 0.21 continue to work). The log display now works better with Xinerama.

Changes: The method for selecting window managers has been made simpler. Better defaults are used if Zero Install is available. Some minor bugs have been fixed. A French translation has been added.
