About:
Sherpath Groupware is a Web-based (HTML and a few
JavaScript), high-performance groupware package.
It features email, schedules, contacts, a file
explorer, email rules, notes, tasks, bookmarks,
and fax and SMS support. It requires Apache, PHP4
and MySQL. This was a commercial project, but it
has been released under the GPL by its authors.

install problems
by cianoz - Nov 25th 2002 05:49:14
Sherpath is a very interesting suite but i tried to install it (win2k) and
i got no good results because i get problems with access/login and
register_globals setting for PHP environment.
Well, it should be very nice to have it working, but support for users and
amins that are not very skilled seems to be poor :-(
I'm still looking for help all over the internet...

Promising work
by Greeny - Mar 1st 2002 04:26:06
This is a nice package, but suffers from some small problems...
1) English v. French language - it's got 99% of the stuff working to
handle the languages automagically, but there's a couple of pieces where
it falls short. The login screen, and a couple of buttons (e.g.,
"retour" instead of "return"). It also seems to be
dying when I go into the user edit mode - I think it's when looking up the
language (like 34 or something like that).
2) It's slow going from screen to screen... This could be due to the
intense amount of graphics... But at times it says that the page couldn't
load due to a temporary overloading of the server... Since my server isn't
running anything other than apache, it's not overloaded... Retrying a few
times and it eventually loads...
Other than that, it appears well written... I anxiously await v 1.0 and
beyond...

Right - in fact we were quite in a hurry before releasing the package.
Besides, grammar and syntax is not fully correct, and will have to be
rechecked by native English folks..

This is really strange, as performances were really a concern during the
developpment. Pages (using a standard 600MHz server) should be generated
between 0.5 and 4 seconds (except for the mail and the schedule module,
which are slower).
As example, the groupware was installed and is being successfully used by
1000 people in a French administration (on a regular 1-intel-processor IBM
server), without much troubles.
Ensure that you have recent server versions:
- PHP >= 4.1.x (older ones had overflow problems)
- mySql >= 3.23 (older versions were slow)
- a fast imap demon (some imap servers are really slow too)
Some bogus browsers (IE 5.0/5.5SP1 for example..) are also SLOW when
accessing the groupware using https.
