The SMS Server Tools send and receive short messages through GSM modems or mobile phones. Messages are stored as text files in spool directories. External programs or scripts of any language can be used to filter, inspect, and answer messages automatically. Events and alarms can be passed to scripts for integration in monitoring tools. The program generates performance statistics as well. This daemon supports the following message formats: 7bit GSM, 8bit ISO, 16bit Unicode, 8bit binary data (ringtones, logos, wap-push), user data header, flash, delivery report.

Recent releases

Changes: A bug in the smsevent script has been fixed. This script did not concatenate long messages on Fedora.

Changes: This release uses longer filenames for received messages, allowing it to keep more files in the incoming spool directory. In addition, the unlock() function has been renamed to solve a name conflict on the QNX operating system.

Changes: String buffer termination errors have been fixed. This release reduces the risk of abnormal program termination in case of bad entries in the config file and bad modem answers. It also reduces the risk of missing the last digit in received phone numbers.

Changes: Compared to version 2.x, this branch includes some enhancements for the UTF-8 character set and some experimental extras.

Changes: This release fixes a documentation bug regarding the [provider] section in the configuration file. The program has been changed to support both the [provider] and [providers] keywords as well as both [queue] and [queues].

Recent commentsProgram is stable, book and DVD updated
Hello users,
I did not receive any bug report for a while, therefore version 2.2.14 is still the latest one.
However, Keijo Kasvi is working on his own extended version 3.x which is downloadable on http://smstools3.kekekasvi.com/.
For both versions, you might buy my book SMS Applications, that has been updated today.

Program runs absolutely stable
Hello people,
I tested the version 1.14.3 at vodafone germany for 3 weeks sending and receiving messages every minute. The program ran absolutely stable.
I used a 4 years old Linux server for this test. The program did not cause any problems on the other software that runs on the same PC. A temporary CPU load of 100% caused by the other server software did not introduce any problem. All messages (of more than 20.000) were received correctly and all sent messages reached the receiver.
The version 1.14.3 is pretty good useable for business.
