About:
SVGATextMode uses extra features on SVGA cards to enhance Linux textmodes. It allows setting of the pixel clock, H/V timings, font size, cursor size, etc, and lets you use your video card and monitor to their full potential in textmode.

svgatextmode broke my monitor
by dinarchus - Mar 20th 2000 16:11:09
I was messing around and doing stuff with svgatextmode
without reading the manual/documentation, and when i did
something with a messed up "clocks" line my monitor broke
and now i have to get it returned. So be careful, and make
sure to read the documentation before you use it, or else
you might break your monitor too.
Although, it was a very cheap monitor.

Sounds pretty cheap. Any good monitor should shut down if given the wrong
parameters to protect it.
