tgif

tgif is a vector-based drawing tool, with the additional benefit of being sort of a web-browser. That is, you can fetch drawings from a web server with it, and you can make objects in your picture into hotlinks to other parts of the drawing, or to other drawings accessible via HTTP.

Changes: Fixes bugs with the create_arc_obj() internal command, measurements in the ruler window, "tgif -print -pdf", and copy and paste in Cygwin. Uses the X Selections mechanism to perform copy and paste. Adds support for linking to an external JPEG file to save file size. Adds support for Tgif.PSFontNeedCharSubs and Tgif.PSCharSubs.* so that some characters in the non-ASCII portion of a non-iso8859-1 font can be replaced by user-specified PostScript characters. Adds Tgif.DrawTextFuncKey_F# so that a function key can be associated with a list of internal commands in the text drawing mode.

Changes: A bug with image map generation was fixed and "eq4.sym" and "eq4-2x.sym" were replaced. These new LaTeX equation symbols do not use pstoepsi or ps2epsi and only require latex, dvips, and gs to function. A new "pstoepsi" internal command was added(<target_eps_path>,<src_ps_path>,<scale>).

Changes: Fixes for a Meta key problem with Mac OS X (Darwin), a bug with importing an EPS file generated by ps2epsi, and tgif to be able to import an EPS file with an 8 bit-per-sample preview bitmap. tgif works with out-of-the-box xcin on Red Hat Linux. Support was added for a new built-in double-byte input method, tgtwb5, to input big5-encoded traditional Chinese characters. tgwb now has chat capabilities. A new command line option "-sbim xim" was added to use XIM as the input method for single-byte fonts, and a new LaTeX equation symbol file "eq4-lyx-ps2epsi.sym" was added to edit the equation with LyX. "ru.po" was also updated.

Changes: This release moves tgif's home from UMD to USC, handles the case where no domain resources are specified, supports a new compiler option, -D_XPM3TOPPM, adds more information in the tooltip, and adds a new LaTeX equation symbol file "eq4xpm.sym". A bug in tgwb when a text object is being edited has been fixed. This version also adds and obsoletes some X defaults, and updates the Reliable IP-multicast Library.

Changes: QPL licensing, updated contact info in the About menu, a fix for a bug with "on_resize=" attribute when multiple objects have the same name, a fix for a bug with Tgif.DeleteCmdAsCut, a fix for a bug with the select_each_obj_and_exec() internal command, a fix for an uninitialized variable bug (which causes things to fail when running tgif with -print -eps commandline options), and more.

Simple yet useful drawing tool.
I am very pleased with tgif. I knew this application since 1993. That time I used it to modify gnuplot graph output to be used in presentation. I also tried Xfig but lately I realised that tgif have better drawing capabilities and flexibility. With v4.1 I can use it as simple WYSIWYG word processor. It also can be used as simple slide show for presentation. Also with few addition in ~/.Xdefaults I can use Japanese characters. I would like to show to everybody the screenshot that I made when using tgif.

http://www.ssmcorp.com/bakhtiar/screen1.gif
file size 293,086 bytes.

I used tgif to put Japanese texts and colored it individually. I also stretched a bit 'LINUX' strings to make it larger and page-width full. Then I print/export it to Postscript format for further printing and viewing. Background Mandelbrot Fractal Wallpaper is a produced using XaoS v3.0.

Thanks for making this wonderful program.
