TorChat is a peer-to-peer instant messenger with a completely decentralized design, built on top of Tor's location hidden services, giving you extremely strong anonymity. It is very easy to use, and doesn't need to be installed or configured on Windows systems.

Changes: This is the first version that has a working Debian installer and works without configuration out of the box on Linux systems. It has support for multiple profiles (identities), and portable mode now is principally possible on Linux too. File transfers can be initiated by simply dragging a file into the chat window, some minor bugs have been fixed, and a Polish translation has been added.


Changes: This version has support for translations of the user interface. A complete German and partial French and Dutch translations are included. There is now a user-friendly configuration dialog for the settings in torchat.ini. The temporary folder for incoming files is no longer by default the system temp folder on the computer's hard drive when running in portable mode.


Changes: Incoming messages can now be configured to open in the background instead of popping up on the desktop. The task bar icon will flash and a list of unread message windows will be in its menu. The annoying flickering of the buddy list that was introduced in the last version has been fixed. All windows now show their own ID in their title bar, which is useful when running more than one instance.


Changes: This version has a protocol change which is not backwards compatible, so it is recommended to update to 0.9.9.140 and stop using any older version. The new version features pseudo-offline messages. The process of adding and removing buddies from the list has been improved. Many bugs have been fixed, including a critical one that could have led to a possible DoS attack.


Changes: This version implements notification popups on incoming messages. File transfer has been improved and will automatically recover from any connection breakdown during the transfer.
