treewm is a window manager that tries to implement a new concept. In addition to the client windows, the user can create desktops which can themselves contain windows and desktops. By arranging the windows in such a tree, the user is able to manage tasks efficiently.

[»] Comparison to Ion?
by Aaron Denney - Jun 12th 2001 16:57:11

The description sounds a lot like ion.

Has anyone used both? How do they compare?

I've used both and must say that the main difference (as I see it) is ion is more usable without a mouse since it is the main purpose of ion to be usable without it. Treewm on the other hand is nice because of the unlimited desktop way but I doubt that it would be usable without a mouse. However both are really fast with a small fingerprint :)

Guess I'd agree, treewm seems a bit faster, but not much. I find treewm a bit easier to manipulate to get the windows I want. Really enjoy them both, though.

Hi, I am using the prerelease for a few months now, it was a bit difficult to get the feeling of it, but now I love it more than the ones I used before. Biggest advantage is the speed which is lightning fast from startup, over opening windows untill shutdown. Second thing I love is that there are (almost) no borders to the windows and just a tiny top to identify them. I am curious about the new release and can tell everybody who is working with linux, give it a try!
