Visitors Web Log Analyzer

Visitors is a very fast Web log analyzer. It can process up to 150,000 lines/second of logs on a modern PC, outputs statistics in plain-text or HTML, and generates a number of Google-specific reports and graphviz graphs of visitors' common paths. It does not require any kind of configuration, nor does it need to be told the exact format of the Web log file to process.

Changes: --grep and --exclude options were added to process only line matching or not matching specified patterns. --ignore-404 was added in order to avoid 404 errors that are processed like other log lines to create statistics. This is useful for sites where there are a number of requests producing 404 error codes. A new report about users' screen resolution and color depth was added, but it only works after the inclusion of the JavaScript code mentioned in the README file. Some other minor fixes were made.

Changes: This release adds an important bugfix in the unique visitors algorithm. The output is now nearer to reality (though unique visitors stats are always a guess without the use of a cookie).

Changes: Two new reports were added: "AdSensed pages" which shows pages accessed recently by the Google AdSense bot, and "Human Languages" via Google's referer "hl" GET parameter (this does not need to resolve IP addresses to guess the language of visitors). Keyword based referer spam filtering was added. The browser list was updated with the ability to detect different versions of IE and Gecko-based browsers. A problem regarding long lines in the HTML output causing issues sending reports by email was fixed. The parsing code and the unique visitors algorithm were improved.

Changes: This release added a fix required for googlebot changes, new reports including a new bidimensional map that shows traffic levels in the whole year, a display of unique visitors for every month, better generation of graphviz graphs including percentages in arcs, nodes for google, external links and no referer, and a reduction in memory usage. The highlight color for weekends was changed to be more visible. Most stats are now made by unique visits and not by the number of accesses. Many bugs were fixed and a real manual page was added.

Changes: As result of Google's bots User Agent string change, visitors were no longer able to produce two Google-related reports (Googled Pages and Browsers). This bug is fixed, and all users should upgrade in order to get reliable outputs.
