WaveSurfer

WaveSurfer is a sound visualization/manipulation tool for novice and advanced users, with a simple and intuitive user interface. It can be adapted to different tasks, such as speech research and education, speech/sound analysis, and sound annotation/transcription. You can also make more advanced/specialized applications by extending it with custom plugins or embed WaveSurfer components in other applications. Its flexible interface handles many different file formats, and it runs on many flavors of Windows and Unix. It also supports encoding and Unicode with unlimited file size, and more.

Changes: The Mac OS X binary no longer requires a Tcl/Tk installation. A new Wsurf.py that can be used to embed widgets in Python applications was added, and a new transcription function that splits sound files according to a transcription was included. The Wsurf widget now has zoom icons built in. The transcription format now allows for non-contiguous labels, and the file format is automatically detected. Multiple -config options can now be given when starting the program from the command line.

Changes: This release can use Snack 2.2.3, and there are many enhancements and bugfixes.

Changes: A default configuration can now be specified and preference settings can now be stored together with the configuration. A new slider was added for changing spectrogram analysis bandwidth, and transcriptions have been improved with the ability to play labels with a double click. Boundaries now lie above selections. Several other minor enhancements were also added.

Changes: The cursor is visible in transcription panes. A new time format (seconds) was added. Transcription panes now default to using the WaveSurfer native format, and many minor enhancements and bugfixes were made.
