X File Explorer
X File Explorer (Xfe) is a filemanager for X. It is based on the popular, but discontinued, X Win Commander. Xfe is desktop independent and is written with the C++ Fox Toolkit. It looks similar to Windows Commander or MS-Explorer, and is very fast and simple. It features file associations, the ability to mount/umount devices, a directory tree for quickly changing directories, the ability to change file attributes, automatic registry saving, the ability to view/create/extract compressed archives, and much more.

Changes: This release fixes a severe bug that occurred when building Xfe on Fedora Linux. The Swedish translation was also updated.

Changes: A new, complete KDE icon theme, a new path linker above file lists, and a new rounded gradient control theme for buttons. Several new useful options have also been added to the Preferences dialog. Many translation have been updated and completed: Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, and Japanese. Many bugs were fixed.

Just the Ticket
Recently took my 75-year-old mother-in-law out of the world of winviruses. Xfe provides the functionality she needs on her desktop, without the overhead of a highly integrated, highly touted "Desktop Environment".
Perfect for me
Superb addition to the aterm, clex and midnight commander.
Best of all, no need for GNOME or KDE. Lovely.
