[»] PEAR DB vs. PoptasticDB
by Ariejan de Vroom - Dec 21st 2003 00:17:22

What would you call the convincing reason for not using the currently excellent PEAR DB class?

PEAR supports a very wide range of databases and has been tested very well. Why should <a user> want to use PoptasticDB?

Every now and then you see people saying something like "Why should anyone use project x when project y is out there and does the same thing and IMHO it's much better". The answer is of course that there is no reason why anyone would use this product over any other similar product, it's down to individual choice. If PEAR DB is in your opinion better then use it and be happy! The whole point, in fact the essence of free software is that people like me can write things like poptasticDB for the challenge, the hell of it or whatever and if there's a better project that people use then ultimately it doesnt matter because to the developer merely taking part and solving the challenge of software development is enough. If once a task was performed by one piece of free software no other developers attacked the same task the world of free software would be a barren place indeed.
