About:
Alvaro's Messenger is a Tcl/Tk client for MSN
Messenger. Its features include multi-language
support, smileys, docking support for KDE 3 and
GNOME 2 (FreeDesktop compatibility), logging,
profiles support, email notification, customizable
sounds, group management, file transfers with NAT
support, and proxy support. Some special features
include the possibility of knowing who has deleted
you from his/her list, connecting "silently"
(appearing invisible), and so on.
Release focus: Major feature enhancements
Changes:
This release adds support for displaying pictures, receiving file
transfers using the new MSNP2P system (through the server), custom
smileys, and the the Windows tray icon. There's now a "typed characters
counter" in message windows, an "Advanced preferences editor" to
customize each detail of AMSN, and a new default skin. All configuration
files have been migrated to XML. There are many bugfixes and minor
improvements to the GUI and protocol.

amsn. So if you think you can...

It didn't work!!!

Hi, I tried to install AMSN on my Red Hat 6.2 where I rencetly also
installed tcl 8.4.6, but AMSN was impossible to install. I did as it was
instructed (./amsn) and then a line in shell said that there was an error
in the file 'amsn' and that the problem was in the file, on the line 202
"reload_files". I even tried with amsn8.3 and the same problem accur, but
on the line 127.
How do I fix the problem?

As I used locale in another language, I'm guessing that,
that language locale are not supported by amsn

Alvaro's Messenger is a great msn client for *nix systems. Since it's based
on Compu's messenger it has all features of that well-known clone of MSN
Messenger. In this version there're multi-language support, better fonts
and graphics and more stable core. If you want the taste of Microsoft's
light-coded MSN in *nix environment, Alvaro's messenger is what you're
looking for.

thanks for upgrading Compu's Messenger, I was checking freshmeat every week
for an update, and now I found one ... It's mutch more stable (no error's
on nick's with non-alphanumeric characters, etc, ....)
PS: I didn't like the Micro$oft colors & Icons is it possible to create
skins?

hi... well, i got 2 problems in amsn , currently im using gnomre 2 and
debian sid.
when im using amsn , if i get new msg, the new msg window keeps flashing
in the bar, then the computer becomes extermnly SLOW as if it was sucking
up the ram. i have to ctrl+c to kill it. it the computer would freez "froze
quite few times". is there a way to make this flashing notice stop? im
trying to edit the script. but dunno if that would work. however. im also
trying to have an msn that can be able to VIEW arabic fonts, haven't found
alot of methods though. im wondering what do i need to do in order to be
able to view those fonts "any hints would be highly appreciated!"

Hi, you can disable the flashing thing easily. Edit gui.tcl, search for
"proc WinFlicker", and add, as first line of the procedure:
return 0
that should disable it.
Some people has reported bad things like memory leaks when using amsn with
russian or other encodings. It looks like getting the tcl/tk source and
compiling it works perfect, instead of using the one in the linux
distribution. Maybe it works for you.
Anyway, internationalization support in tcl/tk is far from finished, but I
think they are doing big progress on this.

It will affect amsn. We're working on a new version
that uses the latest MSNP9 protocol, and will
release it soon, before October 15th. Older
versions of amsn won't work after that day.
