About:
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit designed especially for email
scanning on mail gateways. It provides a number of utilities, including
a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a commandline scanner,
and a tool for automatic database updates. The core of the package is an
anti-virus engine available as a shared library.
Release focus: Major feature enhancements
Changes:
This release introduces many new features. The most important one is the new scan engine with support for 3 algorithms: a multipattern variation of a Boyer-Moore algorithm for static signatures, an extended Aho-Corasick algorithm with support for simple regular expressions, and POSIX compatible regular expression automata which will be used to scan some specific places with complex signatures. A new very lightweight version verification method (using TXT records) was added to freshclam. It's now possible to discover when a new database has been released with a single UDP packet.

no clamd daemon - PLEASE HELP

I've installed via yum clamav on fc5 and I got everything besides clamd. I
have clamd manual but no daemon. I have clamd in /usr/sbin but when I try
to run it from there - instead of "service clamd start" - it tells me
clamd.conf does not exist. when I run "service clamd start" it says clamd
not recongnized...
please help...

Great software! Easy to use. A daemon, some command line tools, two
configuration files. Excellent documentation (incl. man pages).
The classic UNIX way: small and beautiful.
And it works and is really fast. :)

Why do you think so ? If you have problems accessing the main site you
should setup freshclam to use the clamav.ozforces.com mirror for database
updates.

What's wrong with the main site?
Clamav users like me are having problems to update the virus database with
freshclam.
Is there a way to set up freshclam with a mirror?
How can we check the validity of a mirror?

There are two official mirrors: clamav.essentkabel.com (updated
automatically from elektrapro) and clamav.ozforces.com (updated manually).
The newest freshclam (http://clamav.elektrapro.com/snapshot) or
http://clamav.ozforces.com/clamav-20030403.tar.gz switches to the mirror
automatically.

Can anyone please tell me how do i setup freshclam to use a mirror ??
When i run freshclam i get the following:
/usr/local/bin/freshclam -l /var/log/clam-update.log
Checking for new database - started at Sat Dec 6 13:46:39 2003
Connecting to www.mat.uni.torun.pl
Connecting to www.konarski.edu.pl
Reading md5 sum of database from www.konarski.edu.pl : OK
ERROR: Database file not found on remote server
ERROR: Can't download the database from www.mat.uni.torun.pl
ERROR: Can't open new file ./d432c55c18d5479f to write
ERROR: Can't download the database from www.konarski.edu.pl
Any help wud be appreciated.
